I'm intrigued by all four of the Lamar guys, and I wonder if Walker (WR) is good enough to contribute right away, at least on special teams.
Playing only on special teams would be a pretty big waste of a redshirt, but June doesn't seem to care about burning red shirts, so it could happen

Playing freshmen on special teams while they wait their turns on offense or defense is hardly something JJ invented. It happens at a lot of schools. Sometimes sophomores only play special teams, too. It happens.

Typical June apologist garb. If you're smart, you don't burn your red shirts if the player isn't really going to contribute.

If he's healthy off the foot injury, I could see Goulbourne contributing next year. He's an early enrollee and will have spring practice to get acclimated. You can't teach 6'4"

Which means this is "typical JJ hate"? Of course not. That wouldn't be fair to say, either. Special teams IS contributing. Sure, nobody wants to waste a redshirt, but playing special teams does not necessarily mean a year is wasted.

If you're not a lights out kick or punt returner, than yes, in my mind, that's a waste of a redshirt to go cover kicks

I agree with East Coast Mustang. In fact, all three of the WRs mentioned are interesting to me.

Double agree. 6'4" makes him the tallest receiver on the roster. A go-to guy for fades in the red zone would be invaluable to a young, inexperienced QB

I would think you redshirt to develop them then in their redshirt freshman year let them play on special teams. Again, playing redshirt freshmen on special teams not true freshmen is what I think most teams do.

It is a shame that probably no freshman will get to play next year. This class is so weak that it speaks volumes when they will not be able to crack and play and a very weak overall team. Says it all.
