SMU SPORT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM Consider this an open invitation to a guest lecture on Monday, March 3, 2014 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Simmons Hall Atrium The presenter will be Leigh Steinberg, one of the greatest sports agents in history. Book signing will follow lecture.
The real-life "Jerry Maguire," super-agent Leigh Steinberg shares his personal stories on the rise, fall, and redemption of his game-changing career in the high-stakes world of professional sports.
Leigh Steinberg is renowned as one of the greatest sports agents in history, representing such All-Pro clients as Troy Aikman, Bruce Smith, and Ben Roethlisberger. Over one particular seven-year stretch, Steinberg represented the top NFL Draft pick an unheard of six times. Director Cameron Crowe credits Steinberg as a primary inspiration for the titular character in Jerry Maguire, even hiring Steinberg as a consultant on the film. Light-years ahead of his contemporaries, he expanded his players' reach into entertainment. Already the bestselling author of a business book on negotiation, the original super-agent is now taking readers behind the closed doors of professional sports, recounting priceless stories, like how he negotiated a $26.5 million package for Steve Young—the biggest ever at the time—and how he passed on the chance to represent Peyton Manning.
He is also known for being a deadbeat drunkard.

I agree his being on campus is a bit ballsy -- and I even agree there ought to be some very uncomfortable questions thrown his way today. But there's no need to call him names. Not cool. Here's hoping no one drags your skeletons out of the closet for name calling. Do unto others...

What does that even mean? I don't get the analogy. Who is the husband and who is the battered wife?

Tell him to stick around until Wednesday for the Louisville game. Get him good and drunk wearing a Louisville shirt and then he can stumble onto the court Dennis Hopper style and get the Cards a technical!

It will be great for the younger generation to learn from his experiences and how it can all go wrong so fast. Winning and living a quality life "is not a sometime thing...it's an all-the-time-thing!"

Evidently he is GG's agent now. He mentioned his getting ready for the Pro day later this month.
He also talked a lot about Jerry McGuire movie, Any Given Sunday, the contract negotiation with Jerry Jones for Troy Aikman, why college revenue athletes deserve a stipend, drugs in the NFL, etc.
No questions were asked about JJ contract - but he did make a remark when he mentioned that he was June's agent. Something like "you all need to get some more people in those stands".

Couldn't care less what this idiot says. Nice work losing a fortune chasing the bottom of a bottle.

Oh, you mean like he has done to us? Drunkard is the nicest name for him. Not cool is to come onto the SMU campus that you and your client JJ dishonored in public. I am embarrassed we even let him on the campus.
It makes sense to me.

Promises to JJ by SMU were not kept, some still haven't. JJ never went public to defend himself, he took it on the chin and never told the world of our broken promises or our 30 year goal of "managed mediocrity".
Lighten up. When you are older, look back at all the things you've been guilty of and the forgiveness shown by other to you. Let's hope your consumption of alcohol or drugs or ethical drugs doesn't get out of control, or your wife's or your son's or your sister or your brother and if it does you will realize the effort and work needed to get it right again. In particular, let's all hope you've matured enough to either receive or deliver forgiveness necessary to heal.
