Re: SMU announces 2014 scheduleBetter get an extra pencil ready.
Re: SMU announces 2014 scheduleWish we didn't get UConn in Hartford in December.
Good news is we will know after the week 2 UNT game whether or not this team has a prayer of making a bowl game. A loss in Denton would be an early nail in the coffin of the 2014 season/JJ's tenure at SMU 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: SMU announces 2014 schedule
Can we loan some of your bench and third string players from bama?
Re: SMU announces 2014 schedule
I think the pencil will be earning overtime this season.
Re: SMU announces 2014 scheduleSMU FB 2014 is the exclamation point that ends the sentence "We're a basketball school now!"
Re: SMU announces 2014 schedule@ ECU on my birthday. Man, that could be brutal - not looking forward to the shlt-talking from my ECU buddies should we come in there winless and take a beating.

Re: SMU announces 2014 scheduleWe'll see who's eye-rolling in the third week of December.
Re: SMU announces 2014 scheduleon the one hand the schedule looks tough with maybe 3 or 4 wins ...however just look at how fast some teams collapse and other teams improve such as Southern Miss and Tulsa imploding. Hard work, some new guys we don't know about or some older guys getting stronger and more experience, avoiding the injury bug, a bounce or two either way, officiating, catching another team in an off week for them or with some injuries and it might be a great year! You just gotta be ready to take advantage of the opportunity when it arises. Its like a fistfight as one former great SMU coach once said, you go in with arms swinging and see what happens and who gives up first.
Re: SMU announces 2014 schedule
Agreed. The two "must-win" games that pop out to me early are UNT and ECU. Baylor and A&M will destroy us. I don't harbor any grand illusions about the TCU game but stranger things have happened (see 2005). The Memphis-Tulsa-USF stretch is three winnable games in a row. UConn is winnable. Cincy and especially UCF on the road will be tough to beat. I think UH will be good this year but I'm glad we get them later in the season, and at home. I'm not going to automatically write this season off like most on here- wacky stuff happens in college football every year- if you'd told me a year ago that Auburn and Missouri would play for the 2013 SEC Championship I would've laughed in your face. I do think June realizes he's out of goodwill and if he wants to keep getting paid $2M annually he's going to need to put in some effort and pull out some wins. My prediction is still 4-8, though. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient

my happy place is the basketball board. the fb board depresses me.
Re: SMU announces 2014 scheduleAuburn not valid example-they always had the talent level to compete-just a down year in an unforgiving conference where 12 teams have Top 25 recruiting talent. SMU has recruiting talent problems. SMU has slid 3 years in a row and the long prespective is declining talent. The only ones that can't see this are the our resident flag football practice watchers

How many people predicted Auburn winning the SEC West last year, let alone the SEC? 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: SMU announces 2014 schedulewell take a look at Auburn's recruiting classes for their Sophomore(2012), Junior (2011) and Senior(2010) Classes. (Rivals rankings currently unavailiable-so I used Scout) National rankings of 6, 2, and 8. That's the meat of a team's roster discounting true freshman. Probably only about 2-3 teams in the entire country with more highly rated talent. Its not a surprise they were nationally competitive. Auburn's 2012 disaster was a short term decline in an unforgiving SEC. When you have key injuries, coaching issues and other distractions you are going to pay a heavy price in the SEC. See Georgia this year
