The Southern Association that certifies academics standards could be on UNC's doorstep as well. I think they jumped on Texas Tech not too long ago.

The NCAA is willing to overlook phoney degrees, bogus grades and other eligibility tools all in the name of entertainment. This has led to the reality that big time college FB and BB is an entertainment business first and an academic business second.
This has been going on for many years - at least back to the 1960's. But the slippery slope of academic fraud + huge money flowing into these schools + huge coaching salaries = Semi pro college sports. In the SEC FB you either go semi pro or you don't compete (Vandy).
The best thing the NCAA can do is up the admissions standards, spend as much time regulating academic work as they do monitoring payment to players. IE: Put the student back into Student - Athlete. If they don't the NCAA will lose its legitamacy as a body for amateur sports. The NCAA is not responsible for the academic standards at any school. The school must meet their various college accreditation standards. The only thing the NCAA can do is insure that kids meet the minimum high school academic standards for an athletic scholarship which insures national consistency. The individual school must accept full responsibility for meeting their accreditation requirements.

I for one will never forget the Pony Express days. Nor the Jerry Levias days, Forrest Gregg days, Doak Walker days, Chuck Hickson days, Kyle Rote days, Mark Rydel days, or any other ancient history days that have built our tradition.

I'm with Mrydel on this. I don't care what happened in the Pony Express days. I had the most wonderful experience watching us roll over the opposition those years. Seeing Dickerson run for 247 yards on A&M in Texas Stadium was something I can never put out of my mind! Go Pony Express!
Long live Inez Perez!

None of this is relevant in any way to the Pony Express days. I have never read nor heard anything regarding any Academic improprieties on those teams. SMU Football had the highest graduation rate in the SWC at that time. As a sidenote; Dickerson graduated with a Business Degree at a time when half the Greek system could not even gain an admission to COX and were forced because of low GPA's into majoring in the easy "Communications Arts" degrees.
Do not understand "ole miss dudes" point???? Does the fact that SMU cheated during the Pony Express days by paying players bar SMU fans from a discussion of ACADEMIC improprieties at another University? Hardly a case of the Pot calling the Kettle the Black.

Rydel days for many are the most memorable. They set a bench Mark.

My favorite day was the day The Pitch happened for now we have a great story to tell, especially to one M. Rydel.

The players' union will wipe out any and all NCAA requirements. New day and new world. Hopefully, we can take advantage of the new union to upgrade our talent.

More aptly, Mark sat on the bench. ; ) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This would serve to keep UNC possibly out of the American Association of Universities which would effectively keep them out of the Big Ten.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
