I haven't seen or heard anything about it other than on SMU-based sources.

If it wasn't closed to the media, maybe ESPN will have some footage of Gilbert throwing tonight.

Apparently our secondary was covering GG's receivers.

@Gil_Brandt: #SMU QB Garrett Gilbert had unbelievable pro day. Completed 88 of 89 passes (if he had NFL WR would have been 89). 6-4,223, 4.83 40

Apparently Cole Beasley follows this guy. Came up on my twitter feed

Not true. With all due respect to Gil Brandt, three passes fell incomplete — and that'ss till a hell of a day.

Here's a list of the Mustangs who worked out for NFL scouts and their measurables (RB Traylon Shead was there but did not work out), as well as a list of the teams represented. After reading the list, be sure to check out the videos on the PonyFans.com home page!

Garrett Gilbert's strong pro day will boost NFL draft stock
By Gil Brandt

DALLAS -- Sometimes, even this deep into the NFL draft process, a prospect rises from seemingly out of nowhere. For me, that prospect this year is SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert.

Now, I liked Gilbert before his pro day on Friday at SMU -- thought he was an underrated player who should have been invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in February. But his pro-day performance confirmed my thoughts.

In front of three NFL quarterback coaches (Bill Musgrave of the Eagles, Wade Wilson of the Cowboys and the Ravens' Rick Dennison) and representatives from 22 different NFL teams, Garrett completed 87 of 88 passes, and would have completed them all if he had Calvin Johnson catching the back-shoulder fade that hit the ground.

It was a performance that will get him a lot of attention between now and the draft. Gilbert told me he has visits lined up already with the Panthers and Buccaneers. Expect that list to grow.

When all is said and done, I think he'll end up being a mid-round draft pick, maybe even as early as the third round.

One NFL scout at the workout, who was also at Brett Smith's pro day at Wyoming two weeks ago, told me he views Gilbert as a much better prospect than Smith. Many people thought Smith should have been invited to the combine.

Speaking of the combine, I thought Gilbert's workout was better than half of those who were in Indianapolis last month. He has good accuracy, very good velocity, and is a great athlete with NFL size.

Garrett Gilbert, two others shine at SMU pro day
By Gil Brandt

Gilbert was one of 12 players who worked out on FieldTurf outdoors, but there were two other players of note:

Kenneth Acker
, CB: Acker (5-11 5/8, 190 pounds) worked out as a cornerback and looked pretty good. He showed he can backpedal well and has good break on the ball. He’s a good athlete. He ran the 40 in 4.50 and 4.53 seconds. He posted a 36-inch vertical and 9-9 broad jump. He had a 4.29 short shuttle and a 6.92 three-cone drill. He also threw the bar up 11 times. I think he’ll be a seventh-round pick or a priority free agent.

Ben Gottschalk
, OT: Gottschalk (6-3 7/8, 299 pounds) ran the 40 in 5.25 and 5.28 seconds. He had a 29 1/2-inch vertical and a 9-foot broad jump. He ran the short shuttle in 4.85 and the three-cone drill in 7.87 seconds. He also had 26 reps in the bench press. He did a good job working out today and will probably be a free agent.

harbaugh wants to draft a backup for Kaepernick in the later rounds, would love it if gilbert was his guy. Someone above mentioned Smith the wyoming qb, I watch a lot of MWC games and saw him play a few times, no way is he better than Garret. I think garret will perform well in settings like the pro day because he has a big arm and the measurables of an NFL qb. IMHO I think it all depends on how he does in pre season situations and if he can prove to a team he is mentally able to play in NFl games

Marcus Holyfield worked out for the pros?

Did he even get on the field once in college?

Can't say he wasn't there, but I didn't see him. I saw three CFL scouts for two teams, but neither team was the Montreal Alouettes, for whom Okeke is the assistant director of pro and college scouting.
