If I'm reading this right, he would be maybe the highest-rated player on the entire roster (or maybe Gresham?)

I would leave him at the position where he earned those rankings. I realize it's somehow not cool to praise our coaches, but they did take afterthought recruits like Beasley and Moore and Beachum and Crawford and the rest to the NFL. If this guy comes to SMU with better tools than those guys, I'd like to see what he can become at QB before we move him.

Aren't we going to a more spread option no huddle type of offense this year?

interesting he actually went through spring drills at Tyler JC and played in Spring Game this spring. Must be a late qualifier

I think a lot of coaches have so called after thought players that they develop and do well. But you can build a team that can win against other winning teams with that process. As many others have pointed out that for every afterthought player that has made it several more did not and we end up with depth problems. With that being said I do agree with you Corso that we should leave him at QB until proven otherwise.

TexAgs.com says he is a good recruiter-so we got that going for us.

"Matt Davis played a huge part in building our recruiting class before he ever set foot on campus, and continued to work to keep it together when Sherman was fired. He put a lot of effort into our football program, and even though he didn't end up in the playing rotation he still deserves our appreciation for all of the work he did in a period of transition."

Those stats against Blinn look great from a passing and a rushing perspective.

It will be interesting to see how the spring plays out. We will have three pure dropback QBs, and two dual threat QBs with him and Colbert.

We have good depth at safety right now. I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved to WR pretty quickly.

Either way, if he ends up at QB or WR, with his lack of experience at either position I would not expect to see him much next season. Year after that would be more likely.

he's a freak athlete-has long been compared to Vince Young. He claims to have run a 10.6 100 Meters in high school. Recruiting services rate on potential not All-District performance-never played at A&M. For example, in Sophomore year he ran for 1400 yards and passed for 1300 yards. He's always been considered a freak athlete looking for a position. Unless June is going to open up offense like Vince Young at Texas then it would be preferable to redshirt him if he has 3 to play 2 if you want to keep him at QB. Of course will our lack of proven depth at QB that might not be possible

june aint redshirting anyone - he is coaching for his job. In fact i would not be surprised if you saw a bunch more running from the QB spot this year to try to stay in some games and see what might happen. Lets face it - a new guy in the typical June system is not going to beat Baylor, aggie or froggie. I surprise run attack from a great athlete can keep you in it.

CONFIRMED!

A Tyler athletic staffer (not a coach) just confirmed that Davis has not signed anything yet but does intend to transfer to SMU.

Very interesting. Davis is a major talent.

The more I think about this I'm shocked. WOW!

Stallion- I think he redshirted in 2012 at A&M, and was at TJC for 2013. So wouldn't he have 3 to play 3, or am I too drunk again?
