Re: Uniform update?those Jerseys are just about perfect-I really don't care much either way about pant stripes. It may be the lighting but that looks deeper blue than the slightly disappointing bright blue worn last year. This blue looks like the HD ready strong blue on the Moody Floor-which was also perfect. Compare to this picture of Garrett Gilbert wearing blue last year. Darker? Definitely darker on my internet but who knows

In general, we hope to establish the design of our blue uniforms as our standard "look" - with a red and white version added. Then, if we add a second set of pants (red, blue or gray) and a second helmet we will have a variety of combinations to choose from. Of course, lock-up gloves, socks, cleats, etc. are also all part of the conversation.
Re: Uniform update?oh and I have one thing to say about that team meeting room in original post:

Re: Uniform update?Any change would be welcomed over what we have been wearing.
Re: Uniform update?Hope that's the home jersey next year, and wear red helmets with it a time or 2

Re: Uniform update? Those are the same blues as last year, there is just a filter on the picture and low light....that said, beats the hell out of our reds

And shoulder stripes. The new/old look is so sweet. Why oh why did it take so long to get our uniforms right. Now just get basketball in blue and we will have nothing to complain about re uniforms. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and
doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Re: Uniform update?Since we are on the subject of uniforms. I decided to share a piece about the original design of the Pony Express uniform from David Whitford's "A Payroll to Meet." All SMU fans should read this book. As a young SMU fan (Class of 2012), it really helped me understand the importance of the history of SMU football. I originally purchased the first edition of this book on amazon and paid a small fortune for it. Today, you can purchase the paperback for pennies on the dollar.
http://www.amazon.com/Payroll-Meet-Story-Corruption-Football/dp/0803248857 The section below discusses Ron Meyer inventing ways to make SMU an attractive destination to top recruits. When Meyer first took the job in Dallas, he had to become very creative in attracting talented recruits. "Still, the Mustangs weren't going anywhere until they could get a lot more good players. Meyer knew that better than anyone else. In the meantime he did what he could. He designed a new uniform. It had red, white, and blue stripes on the pant legs. It said SMU across the chest. It had a galloping Mustang on the helmet. "We had a lot of kids during recruiting," a former assistant remembers, "who would say, 'God, you guys got good-looking uniforms.' This isn't a bigoted comment...but they appealed to the black kids. They weren't so conservative, like the old [University of] Texas orange shirts and white pants. I mean, our uniforms had some pizzazz to 'em!" Everything was triple-striped - the pants, the socks, the shoes, the helmet. Everything matched. Recruits who visited the SMU campus were invariably led into the locker room by Meyer for a private viewing. "What's your number?" he'd say. "Ninety-nine? Here, try this on. Hey, you look great! It's perfect for you." The uniforms had to be worn just so, socks pulled all the way up to the knees, auxiliary pads in place. One of Meyer's pet peeves was the sloppy habit so many players had of writing their numbers on the outside of their elbow pads. They were only trying to keep track of their equipment, Meyer understood that, but couldn't they write on the inside of their pads? Meyer had to insist." I love the blue and it is a humungous upgrade from last season's terrible shoulder stripe template uniform, but the stripes are missing. Call me nostalgic, but it matters. After reading "A Payroll to Meet," it seems like Ron Meyer never did anything half way. Sure, he didn't do everything right, but it seems he never did anything half way. I still do not understand how we can not get this right. How is it that over 30 years ago we could design one of the most iconic football uniforms in college football history, but today we have trouble putting something on the field that looks semi-decent? You would think with just the advancements in technology over the past 30 years it should be easier. We should not forget our history, and we should take advantage of it in any future design process...
Re: Uniform update?1523, you are right on. Hell, look how long it has taken just to get our uniforms to be BLUE.
Re: Uniform update?Great post 1523, and such a great quote from Ron Meyer.
I really don't understand why it is so freaking hard for us to at least dress decently on the field. And anyone who thinks it doesn't make a difference just isn't paying attention. Shake It Off Moody
Re: Uniform update?Yeah, but at least we have the total high-end strip club locker room design to show recruits. That neon red Mustang is great haha.
Re: Uniform update?
Recruits want bigger meeting rooms.......... Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Uniform update?
If the locker room back in the late 70's looked like it does now (low neon lighting), the following excerpt below would have been really creepy and awkward.... Recruits who visited the SMU campus were invariably led into the locker room by Meyer for a private viewing. "What's your number?" he'd say. "Ninety-nine? Here, try this on. Hey, you look great! It's perfect for you."
