According to the SMU Football Draft History, it was Mike Ford who went in the 9th round to Tampa Bay in 1981.

28 HS Texas quarterbacks signed in 2009. Gilbert was the only one drafted. Glad the Rams took him; I think he'll be great as a long-term development QB.

Congrats to Garrett!
June should be shoving this story into every qb recruit's face: "I took this exiled qb that everyone had written of and put him into the National Football League-just think about what I can do for you!" (assuming he actually recruits)

We might need to wait and see if Garrett makes the team first. JJ still hasn't had a QB he coached at the college level take a snap in a regular season game. Hopefully GG will be the first.

He does not need to see how GG does in the pros before making sure recruits know SMU just had their QB drafted. Do you really mean that?

GG will make the team. Shouldn't be terribly hard for him with his practice skills to be out Kellen Clemens for the #2. Either way, GG will get some good time at the helm in the pre-season. Albeit with zero expectations, which is for the best.

Just keep telling recruits they'd be 1-2 rounders if he was still in the league

Shaun Hill is the Rams backup not Kellen Clemens. Gilbert will be competing against Austin Davis for the Rams #3 spot.

Congrats to GG, he gave his all for us for 2 seasons. I hope he succeeds with the Rams or with someone else eventually.
