I know all about the $20million yearly revenue the bottom feeders make and I'm sure SMU would jump at it.
But...... Better be careful what you wish for.
I'd rather see SMU dominate the AAC and beat Baylor and TCU in OOC games than join the Big 12 and go 5-7 every year like TCU will do. It will be very interesting to see what happens to the TCU fan base when they are at the bottom of the Big12 year after year.

SMU can and should be the premier football program in the AAC. A quality hire following JJ and we will be a program to watch.

Put me down for joining the Big 10 if we ever get a chance at a P5 conference.

Oh, about 14 years ago :!: :!:

We are way over our head in the Big 10. Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan State all spend more on football alone than our entire athletic department budget.

Wake Forest will cash checks all day long, but at the end of the day, I give a better chance of making the playoff to a Cincy/Boise/UCF/Fresno than I do to a bottom-dwelling P5 team.

I mean, that is basically it. That is the entire list of schools that I give a real shot, year in and year out, for the title. Sure, every once in a while a Baylor or a Clemson may actually do it, but it hasn't happened yet.

Baylor is NOT Clemson. Clemson underachieved for many years during the Bowden years given the programs immense resources and tradition. Likening Clemson to Baylor is an insult.

Agree with this synopsis. I think if SMU achieves some success in the aac on a consistent basis that the program can grow in stature and scope moving forward. Better to win in the aac than be stuck at the bottom of the Big 12 eternally like tcu and baylor (yes, soon the fundy baptists are going to return to the cellar)

The most immediate need is to hire a coach who places the correct emphasis on recruiting. JJ is not that guy.
