Re: June Jones after losing seasons in his college careerIt's also called nauseating. Some guys on this board can't get enough of taking shots whenever the opportunity becomes available.
Re: June Jones after losing seasons in his college careerI think some of those "turnarounds" have to do with the natural ebb and flow of players as they mature and graduate. Naturally, if your starters are young, you expect to not have the best year. After a year of practice, growing and conditioning, they're usually significantly better.
What frustrates me is that we don't seem to be able to consistently fill the pipeline, so that we have PLAYERS ready to step in when our Srs graduate. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller

It's almost kind of perverted in a sense, the hate. You can tell it's become nearly psychotic when not bashing the man is interpreted as glorification. To reiterate my official stance on June Jones, I think he may very well lead us to a surprisingly good year this year. But I want him gone regardless. He has taken us as far as he can, often with smoke and mirrors in the talent department. When he leaves, I will remember him fondly as a savior of SMU football. And I will miss the leis and Hawaiian references – it's truly been entertaining and he's brought a ton of soul to a relatively soulless campus. SMU football coaching legend is the way history will view him. But time to move on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I’m coming home

Conversely, even someone being mildly critical gets called a hater. REMEMBER I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT HYPERBOLE and all these extremes of classification mean that the topic is very polarizing. Leader of the Band-itos.

Re: June Jones after losing seasons in his college career
They had 8 home games in 2000 and 7 in 2005, the WAC was weak both seasons. In addition to the home schedule, the significant improvement had a lot to do with having upperclassmen QBs and 80%+ returning offensive starters. None of that is really analogous to our situation here in 2014. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: June Jones after losing seasons in his college career
It's been the same with every head coach ever since Al Gore invented Ponyfans.
Re: June Jones after losing seasons in his college careerSince it is generally understood that SMU has a low cost or no cost fire option after this next year -what might be a more interesting analysis would be how has June performed as Coach when he (and his assistants) have their large salaries on the line. So in the year before the end of each contract how has he done? I have been pleasantly surprised by recruiting in the last few weeks and we have had good transfer activity. Those are good signs they are not quitting on the team.
I contend he is likely to exit. But we could be one upset away from another contract with him. And I would argue against June adding any soul to a soulless place. Not sure what university you went to - but we have had very little to be rabid fans about (discounting very average bowls) - and there is a small but solid core of fans still 25 yrs after any kind of real success. June made his own bed here - he could have ben a hero by embracing our culture even at 50% what he does with all the Hawaii nonsense. I respect his football knowledge and loyalty to his players. I don't respect his loyalty to his employer or the people who pay the bills around here. I think SMU and our fans have a great deal of soul - we just aren't idiots about it. Check the basketball team if you need proof.
Re: June Jones after losing seasons in his college careerAnd-it should be pointed out that criticism of June's recruiting has subsided almost exactly in proportion to the type of effort made on the recruiting trail. There's been very little criticism of June's recruiting since they apparently decided to do their Texas state recruiting tour. Haven't seen the huge recruiting fumbles we saw in for example 2013 when we dropped the ball with several interested Dallas prospects. They've been given the benefit of the doubt by most. The problem will be that any improved 2015 recruiting ain't going to show up for a long time. As said above-June made his bed in 2012-2014 and now he's in a big hole to dig out

Re: June Jones after losing seasons in his college career
And it won't be him digging out of this hole. He's done a good job patch working this year's roster with the Rice transfer (GREAT get, BTW), JUCO QB Davis (could be just as huge depending on the learning curve) and the odd Duke lacrosse player at WR. A one year swing for the fence. Then..... SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Re: June Jones after losing seasons in his college career
If I were to bet, I'd think a 4-5 win season is most likely, and June will be shown the door. But if we have a solid season this year (7-8 wins, or beat TCU or A&M and eek out a bowl), then I think June is 110% back and expectations will be high for 2015: entire starting OL returning, junior QB (either Burcham or Davis) returning, all WRs returning I believe except for Der'Rikk, and lots of returners on the defense as well (Yenga, Seals, Wood, Minor, the entire secondary except Greenbauer, etc). Remember, we don't graduate many this year. June has about $4-6M in future paychecks riding on what he can do in 2014. It should be interesting to see how it all plays out. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: June Jones after losing seasons in his college career
My opinions are strong but not so freely expressed as some. But it looks to me like the time to evaluate JJs recent efforts is when the 2015 LOIs are signed and we see how many have offers from other than second an third tier schools. And that is not even thinking about the fact that he is likely gone after this season and that the next coach may not have any place for a lot of these kids whether or not they are homegrown.
Re: June Jones after losing seasons in his college careerI don't think anyone hates June Jones. He is s good man that has helped SMU become somewhat respectable in the football arena. Issue is after the Arizona thing JJ quite working hard. I'm ok with the man but not the work ethic.
I'll donate to build him a statue but his time has come and gone. Just like his passion for SMU. Not hate reality of where we are. We need fire, desire, effort and attitude. Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
