And no baseball, softball, lacrosse, track is one of the differences between P5 and G5 (both terms which I hate).

If we played the football well none of this would be discussed. We'd be a better TCU in the Big12

And apparently SMU is the only college the local pro baseball team doesn't give flip about. Watching the Rangers game today and if see the TCU or Baylor "college night" commercial again I'm going to pull my hair out. And Gary Patterson will throw out the first pitch....kill me.

Stop wasting time on the Rangers. They are a bad baseball team, they'll lose a lot of games, their radio guy makes me want to drive off a bridge, and it's way too hot to go out and watch. That way, they could dig up LaDanian Tomlinson or any other stupid Frog, wheel them out there and you wouldn't have to see it.

Problem solved.

The weather has been amazing? Do you really think it has been too hot to watch baseball outside?

SMU hasn't had baseball since 1980. We've learned to live without for this long....

BTW, Wisconsin doesn't have it. Neither does Iowa State.

Whitmire is a clueless clown. College baseball, especially in a market like Dallas, is a zero sum endeavor for a school like SMU. We have to fix what we already have before we can ever think about adding more non-revenue sports that would require a $50-$100M investment. SMU is about to spend upwards of another $50-$75M for athletic facilities with tennis, IPF, and a new natatorium.

Not to mention that we have Soccer and most Texas schools don't. Would we want to trade it for baseball? I wouldn't. Also, with paying the student athetes coming up, I suspect many schools will have to drop the more expensive to maintain sports like baseball, softball, soccer and swimming as happened with Title 9 years ago.

I would rather have SMU Baseball, than SMU equestrian or soccer.

It is financial suicide for any non P5 school to add costly non-revenue programs in this stipend era we are about to embark upon. You will see several schools here in the next 10 years drastically scale back some of these programs if they want to maintain a D1A football program.

Maybe this was already covered, but wouldn't we have to have a baseball team to realistically gain entry to the SEC or PAC 12- which are the only conferences thAt would ever consider us an expansion candidate? I know wishful thinking.

This.

Here's a list, in order, of the only college sports that really matter in the grand scheme of things (revenue, realignment, brand development):

1. Football
2. Men's basketball

Everything else is window dressing

If we joined those conferences, we could afford to have baseball and softball both as well as what we've got now.

With projected increase in income if selected by either conference, I'm sure we would agree to start up necessary programs as part of the deal.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

First if the SEC or Big Eleven came to us and said, "if we extend an invitation it will be subject to you adding baseball", the field would be built in one month. However, for conferences like the B1G, Pac-12, the AAC and ACC, our soccer program actually would be more valuable to them than baseball. If the ACC came calling, i suspect they'd ask us to add lacrosse before baseball, that sport out-draws baseball.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Me and a couple friends were finding it ironic that North Dakota State, Kennesaw, Bryant and Siena were in the college baseball playoffs and a D1 school in Dallas has no team. I understand why but it sure is a nice filler once basketball season is over.
