The smaller pony is due to the new, safer helmet designs. I forget where I heard that, but there's literally not enough room for the old decal

Don't Change...The Helmet

I wasn't for sure if the pony was smaller, or if it was an illusion due to the stripes being more narrow. So, I decided to do a quick test with Photoshop. It appears, IMO that the helmet decal was significantly smaller in 2013. On the blended image I resized the images to scale correctly (using the face mask attachment as a guide).

Please SMU, stop tweaking things that do not need to be tweaked for no reason... Classic is classic because it never changes!

It also appears the red of the mustang is not as bright/sharp, but that just may be the picture.

You are right. Don't mess with success.

1. Decide on the damn helmet stripes and stick with them.

2. Get rid of the shoulder stripes and never have them back.

3. Add matching pant stripes and don't mess with it.

4. Add giant SMU lettering on chest.

5. Change to blue with an occasional throwback.

Do that and our uniforms are done for perpetuity with all our fans are happy and the uniform geeks would love us. It isn't that hard, is it.

1523,

You are a photoshop uniform genius. My rugby team needs a uni design, do you want to branch out into another sport?

Treadway,

PM the info and I'll take a shot at it. Just let me know what brand or uni template you are planning on using? And of course team name, colors etc. I won't be able to touch it until next week though...

Long article, some of which is true, other parts witty and parts informative. What I got out of it:

"3. A man's got to know his limitations
Leonardo da Vinci didn't paint an alternate version of "Mona Lisa" with a frown. Vermeer didn't paint "Girl With a Diamond Earring." Grant Wood's "American Gothic" doesn't feature the farmer holding a saxophone. Some things you don't mess with, like certain football unis. Alternate jersey and helmet logos are fine. Sometimes they're even better than the primary outfits. But under no circumstances -- the penalty being the offender has to do the Oklahoma drill, against actual OU players -- should the following programs ever change their helmet logos: Oklahoma, USC, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, SMU, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Texas, TCU, Fresno State, Colorado and Notre Dame."

Amen (except for TCEww and FState). Never mess with the unwavering classics!

Yeah I don't know why I wrote TCEww, but it made me laugh.

OK lets go back to the Helmet Color SMU wore from the first year SMU played football to the late 60's, solid red with a number also the red jerseys. Get back to the real tradition or the classic SMU uniform

Will do. We aren't in a hurry. We also have some uni history you might appreciate if you are into that sort of thing.

Berg, I think Oz 's suggestion is perfectly good for special throwback games. Doak Walker's Red with khaki pants is a great look - as 1523 has demonstrated with some of his other mock ups.

This reminds me of the scene in Mrs. Doubtfire where Robin Williams is trying to be two different people at the same time.
