Re: Crash heard on campusThe powder puff no tackling policy shows up in games thru out the season.
GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Crash heard on campusOk, I played a little football.
Contact? Uh, yes, absolutely!! Tackling to the ground? I'm ok with only doing it in a limited fashion (drills, scrimmages, maybe the 2nd and 3rd weeks then cutting back a week before the game).
Re: Crash heard on campusI played in high school. Granted it was 2A East Texas so take it for what its worth. I'm far more concerned with the lack of talent as opposed to the lack of tackling/contact in practice.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Crash heard on campusAlso, I question if any of you have actually seen a practice in the last few years. The defense regularly does the "bull in the ring" drill. Been doing it ever since June got here.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Re: Crash heard on campusWell now we're changing our tune. It was initially a lack of "contact". If anyone has actually attended a practice you'd see that our defensive players take part in a good bit of contact in practice. I will add however, there is no tackling or taking guys to the ground.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Crash heard on campus
That is not the type contact needed although it is good. We need live, full speed scrimmage. You can put a red jersey on the QB. You can hold out the skill position super stars if we have any. But the OL, DL, and LB positions and I believe the secondary also, need some full speed seasoning. Do a 50-100 play scrimmage after the first few days in pads. The linemen get to adjust to full speed rush and the defense gets to read angles. I agree we are not at the same skill level as our early opponents but we do not need to give them extra advantages. I am not saying full speed 24/7, but just enough to be ready for real time, big boy football. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Crash heard on campusI would think it would be beneficial to get the receivers and RBs used to contact as well before the first game.

Crash heard on campusCan the players just fucken tackle in practice like everyone else does?!?!
Re: Crash heard on campus
And we all believed that b.s.... can't take much what June says reality.
Re: Crash heard on campusDoes anyone go by practice? It's not exactly a hands-off region out there. They run to the play and wrap up all day.
Just like more and more NFL teams do.
Re: Crash heard on campusNFL teams gave preseason games. We do not. Nor do we have 22 NFL caliber players on the field.

Re: Crash heard on campus
Using the NFL is an awful example. How you seen how terrible teams tackling has gotten the past 5 years with less and less hitting in practice??? BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.
Re: Crash heard on campuswe are physical, we just don't take players to ground.
The problem in the first games of the season isn't that we don't tackle. It's that we are playing against players a lot better than the ones we play against in practice. the most physical part of the game is on the line, and we are actively hitting there.
Re: Crash heard on campusI have to repeat this to your post every year. If you are not taking them to the ground, you are holding up and not running through the play. This causes bad angles when you get to live action. Yes the opposition has better players, but if we can tackle them for a 5 yard gain instead of a 50 yard gain then we stand a chance of keeping the game closer and more competitive.
