I should add it's been quite some time sense I had such knowledge of class and grades cheating.

Have we tried offering $100 million of the endowment to any P5 league willing to take us?

That's what I have suggested many times. and maybe agree to a reduced payout for Conference/TV money, for first few years. Money seems to talk these people.

$100 million would only be the start, would have to spend around that much, or likely much more upgrading all facilities.

This was tried about five years ago by Fred Smith in a failed attempt to get Memphis into the Big East. I mean, granted, UM got in, but not from this. Smith, the founder and CEO of FedEx, offered, I think, $100M to the Big East in the form of coporate sponsorship from FedEx in return for Memphis' admission to the Big East and was turned down. Made Memphis look desperate.

Simply buying our way in won't work. We have to offer someone something.

I think its worth a good try. What has SMU got to lose? All they can say is yes or no. If yes, we are in. If no maybe we throw in more stuff.

Make no mistake we ARE desperate! I think we all know that SMU is still a "sleeping little giant" and if given the opportunity to go against the big boys week in and week out, that we will have built in attendance to a large extent, being in DFW metroplex and all.
We can pull our weight once we are in, and we all know SMU and Dallas has a lot to offer. C'mon SEC, take our money, Please...

Wonder how long it would take to get the football team to be competitive in a P5 conference?

UTSA had about passed us in only a couple years of having football. So it can be really quick if we weren't preventing ourselves

The SEC already has the Dallas market (not that we would deliver it anyway) courtesy of Texas A&M.

This is where I disagree. We do deliver the Dallas market by allowing each team in the conference (whatever conference that may be) to play in Dallas at least every other year. There may not be a great draw for us but it would give our conference mates the opportunity to be seen in Dallas, bring recruits to a game in Dallas and have a personal presence in the Dallas market. Do not down play the upside of being in Dallas.

I am not happy about all the down side we have from a competitive stand point, fan base, etc. but I do think of we have anything we have Dallas to which we can cling.

You know each former Texas SWC team already plays an annual game in Dallas

Texas/OU
A&M/Arkansas
Texas Tech/Baylor

Doesn't seem like a strategy any viable conference would go for. They can always get more games in Arlington if they want more exposure in the region without having to dilute their brand by getting into bed with G5 schools.

I do not remember seeing every Big 10 or every PAC 12 or every ACC team playing in Dallas consistently. This would be the opportunity to do so.

Now let me be clear. I do not see any way that we get picked up by a P5 group any time soon. But and it is a BIG BUTT, if and when P5 conferences expand to full 16 team conferences to make everyone on a level playing field and have conference Championships, this would be a positive for us. We just have too many other negatives going for us.
