SMU is known as a coaching death sentence. The great June Jones couldn't get it done here, and make no mistake, most of the national media still think JJ is a good/great coach. UTSA is kind of like USF or UCF, a big state school new to the game with a commitment to improve. I have no clue what they pay but I bet if you polled young assistants where they would rather be a HC, UTSA would get more votes.

it starts with about 4 times the student population which eventually becomes 4 times the alumni, not to mention being the only football game in town. It's all about the interest level in your program these days and that's what has killed us since cable TV came into the equation

I guess I should also mention state rate tuition, easier to bring in walk-ons, more diversity in student population which makes school more attractive to some, etc, etc, etc...

Good points, perception is reality. Most people won't bother to find out the real reasons behind June's failure they'll just blame it on SMU.

I know we paid JJ that but the CofC are not dumb people. They know we are stuck and I just can't see them committing that kind of a money to any coach again as long as we are in a non-P5 conference, and without the hope of getting there. That's why not one of them agreed to the 5 million dollar buyout. The sooner we accept this is over the better.

You know, Charleston, SMU has been adding buildings on campus left and right. You would think that the student population would be exploding to fill up these new buildings?

Oh c'mon..Coker is way past his prime...that bus has left. Hire Adrian Klemm....he is ready and would recruit and relate to young athletes and would take this job serious, just as he did when he was here. But June didn't like his uppity ways of recruiting.
