Phil Bennett also sucks. Let's don't try to make him look any better than he is.

He didn't suck any worse than this, and he was a hell of a lot cheaper.

Not pro Jones or anti Phil, but one must acknowledge Phil has better athletes to work with also. He looks good now at Baylor but remember his first year with no players he didn't look as good. Of course the lack of recruiting part fall on Jones.

I don't think it's fair to draw the conclusion that Bennet outcoached anybody. Baylor's front 7 against our OL was like men against boys. PonyNate could have coached those guys and they would have had a half dozen sacks.

Will be curious to see both teams next week against different competition to determine if they're that good or we're that bad.

I know Baylor hasn't always been this good..but that was an all time record for them. Singletarys (wasn't it a Cotton Bowl) team didnt even do that against whatever the crappiest team they played was

I completely disagree. A big part of coaching in college football is recruiting. These studs at Baylor didn't just show up in Waco and buy into Baylor. The coaching staff sold them on the school, the program and what they could accomplish at Baylor. Coaching in college football requires a 24/7/365 a year commitment - selling, recruiting, on the field prep and attitude. To say JJ wasn't out coached because Baylor had superior talent is such b.s. Unfortunately that is defeatist attitude at SMU these days.

Remember the anecdote about Oakman. He had never heard of Waco yet came down cause Bennett developed a relationship with him while recruiting him to Pitt. Anyone one see that happening with the SMU coaching staff?

That's BS...we all know they have better athletes ( that's another story) , but you adjust to what they give you. They were all on the line attacking the QB...one blocking RB wasn't enough to protect the QB...change the offense up based upon their defense. The SMU team was not prepared and looked terrible and uninterested.

67 TOTAL yards? C'mon there is absolutely NO excuse for that in a mans 7th year at the helm, no matter who you are playing. This was another college team, not a pro team.

I think Baylor would make any team look bad, but not 67 yards on 67 plays bad. This is all bad coaching, horrible recruiting and little Gameday prep, all June's fault right here.

UNT is so bad we could win the game and seemly play well and it would not give us a gauge on this team.

I'm sorry but that really reads like excuses for the SMU staff. This program flat out STINKS!

True, their QBs can't throw accurately more than five yards down the field so if we load the box and stop the run we win. We won't see another offense that easy to stop. If we can't pull that off then 0-12 will be a legitimate possibility.
