Stupid Rice, with their top-tier facilities, lack of academic requirements, and tremendous fan support.......how can we ever hope to compete???

ECU's OC Lincoln Riley would be a cheap get with Texas ties

ojaipony wrote:Ok, so I know nothing on the matter. But what's the issue with SMU not being a place to come to? When PB was interviewed, he said something like "everyone said to never go there". What's the issue? Lack of admin support? What is it that makes us be a "bad place to go". Shouldn't we be a GREAT place to go? What's the issue? (serious question).

I'm sure others who are more plugged in can answer this better, but my take is that a lot of the things that made PB say that back in the day have been largely addressed, and the folks still throwing that around are just stuck with that old DP image in their heads and don't know any better. No doubt we had and have our share of issues, but I don't think SMU is the death knell coaching job it was when JJ was hired (even though he seems pretty damned determined to drag it back down there). LB would not have turned around Bball as quickly as he did if the old restrictions and lack of support were still alive and well. I think our football program simply hides behind it as an excuse for not getting the job done. You get an energetic coach in here who recruits, wins, and engages the fan base and you will see a major improvement. Just my two cents.

There used to be so many recruiting restrictions we could not compete for players. As far as I can tell those restrictions are gone. We should be a desirable location for the right coach.

Mike Singletary. The guy brings energy and toughness. Given that no matter what we will never be able to recruit, we at least get a coach in Singletary who won't just roll over....

Defensive Coordinator: Clay Jennings - Arkansas DBs coach and former TCU ace recruiter. Knows DFW like the back of his hand.

Offensive coordinator: grab ECU's OC Lincoln Riley.

Decide and make one of the two the head coach, but bring them both.

There are no recruiting restrictions as far as academics go, SMU now goes by the minimum NCAA guidelines. LB got Mudiay admitted from Prime Prep (a now defunct school) before he bolted for money in China. LB's recruiting of freshman and transfers is proof enough, if a coach wants a player SMU will accept them. All of the support is in place for student athletes. They even added a more "athlete friendly" major, heck they added a whole new department: http://www.smu.edu/Simmons/AreasOfStudy/APW

Some of this wasn't set when June arrived, but just like the stadium lights, things have been changed. LB is proof under the current system a good coach cant get players to SMU without restrictions, and if you win Dallas will show up.

I don't care if the new HC is 25 or 75, draw a circle around DFW and go to work!

At SMU? That might be the most baffling post I have ever read on here. And that's saying a lot.

Maybe for gostangs too many is more than 0? Or he made a wrong turn driving to campus for his freshman year, ended up in Austin, and never realized it.
