I nominate this post for most asinine, uninformed, and living in a hole, post of the day.

Did you watch yesterday? Beat TCU? Are you Big12 FTHP?

Blackooutpony, My point is I don't think anything changes until the big donors decide to change. I have stated my preference elsewhere that Phillips take over for the rest of the year. However, until you are ready to pay the coach then your opinion is meaningless. It looks to me like the C of C has given JJ this year to prove himself. They might change with two games to go or something but why else would they sign him up for another year or two or whatever his contract says. This is not one person, but a committee. They will make their decision on a committee basis.

They were aware that this situation could come up when they had him sign the extension to lower the buyout which he did not want to sign. He tried to go to the media to get a better contract and could not. I think getting blown out by UNT might have been the last straw.

Phillips? Sure let's put him in charge! A June Jones offensive clone and the most hated man on the entire staff. Great choice.

Reb,

How do we know that the buyout is less than it was? SMU is a private university - they aren't required to publish the contract. We have been assuming SMU did the smart thing and reduced the buyout, but does anyone know 100% for certain? Are there any links out there, besides our rampant speculation?

I got to be honest... I don't have a lot of faith that SMU did the smart thing.

footballdad, I think a change is needed. I prefer an offensive coach be chosen for the rest of the year. I can't see changing either the offensive or defensive systems much this year because the players don't have time to learn a new system. Maybe you know something about Phillips I don't know. But, for the rest of the year we need someone that the kids know. If we got Tom Rossley that would be OK too. I just prefer an offensive coach that the players know as offense. Yes, that is my opinion. I am not suggesting anyone long term.

We currently have three offensive coordinators - JJ, Phillips and Morrison. Last year we had 4 with Mumme. If Philips is a cancer like football dad says, he should probably go if JJ goes. On the other hand if JJ got rid of him now, it might be a way to regain the locker room.

Arkpony I don't think anything said here really matters anyway. I don't see the C of C doing anything until the year is out.

Make no mistake... I want him gone and gone now. I wanted him to be shown the door before last year. I'm tired of SMU being an easy target of national ridicule every fall and by extension each and every one of us. We are not going to have a long term solution to the current problems before December at the earliest.

From football dad's comments JJ HAS LOST THE LOCKER ROOM. If the admin doesn't have the balls to do what needs to be done with regards to JJ it doesn't alleviate the point that these kids still need a leader. If firing Phillips (which is JJ or RH's call) regains the locker room enough to get through the season, then it should be done.
