I agree he should be thanked for what he accomplished in just year two; that was the highlight of our post death-penalty era capped by the Hawaii Bowl blowout win...and the timing of this announcement is good, too. Handled the way I hoped it would be.

Some good memories. June definitely accomplished things at SMU. The bowl victories were very memorable.

Best wishes Coach Jones.

he brought the program back from the dead and allow us to have some pride in football again. He just couldn't or wouldn't take us to the next step.

The Hawaii game and Birmingham .... I thought we were on our way up..... Then the ASU junk and the effort stopped.

Thanks for the good memories, hope your issues mend and for resigning.

Happy days in Hawaii, relax, play golf and maybe even settle down with a wahini. (Hawaiian for women)

He got some actual interest back in the program and showed that a coach A) could win here and B) will get PAID to do it. That alone is more than most coaches at SMU have managed to do.

Best of luck coach.

2009 Hawaii Bowl will remain one of my favorite sports moments ever. Birmingham is right behind it. UTEP win to get 6 wins was insanely fun. Beating the frogs at their house!!! Thank you. May your sockless feet be forever soothed by warm sand and cool breezes.

Note to June:

Thank you June. You have done so much for this program. I hate that it has ended this way. The Hawaii Bowl in 2009 is still my favorite SMU sporting event I have ever attended!

I do feel that if the Arizona State incident wouldn't have happened everything would have turned out much different...

Agree with every positive sentiment posted here. I can't think of many coaches that have gone out on a truly positive note and I hate that the season is turning out to be such a disappointment. That is the nature of the business unfortunately. Coach Jones has raised SMU's profile with the national media because he is a truly respected figure in national coaching circles and he was instrumental in getting Coach Brown to make SMU his new home. Those bowl victories were an enormous amount of fun werent they?

Best wishes to you Coach Jones.

Thank You Coach Jones for everything you have done!

Still amazing to see Kyle Padron in Hawaii Bowl, what a performance from a kid who had very little experience.
