Hands tied with what, exactly?

How come none of June's supporters will admit he is a terrible recruiter (at least for the past 3 years)? Why is there always veiled reference to something behind the scenes that is preventing his success? What has he asked for that he hasn't received?

I understand he has friends and players that love him, but come on. Emmanuel Sanders spouting off about "that team was garbage when he showed up and he turned us into champions." Yeah, he did (if you consider C-USA West Co-Champions champions), but how are they blind to the GARBAGE that was these past 2 games? I'm not talking about 2009, 2011, what about the current team can they say is championship quality?

At the end of "Pony Excess" there's even a message from Dr Turner, welcoming back ALL former Mustangs, which I assume meant that pre-DP players wouldn't be shunned. So what is going on that makes these former players feel left out? Are they literally being told not to show up, or do they feel they are owed something? We honored the 1983 team last year at a game, so it's not like the pre-DP guys are not acknowledged. Any former lettermen on this board have any more insight into this gripe?

No doubt June has his avid supporters mostly his friends and players who have played for him. Nothing wrong with that but you'd think those people would have enough perspective to realize that things are going in the complete wrong direction.

Well, I didn't think ED was more loyal to June than SMU, but that seems to be the case. Too bad, but if we make the right hire who will reach out and connect with the fan base and guys like ED - we'll be ok.

Hope ED comes back around, but this situation with June obviously hurt him personally. But I would rather lose ED and JJ than let this thing linger. It wasn't going to be any prettier at the end of the season. Might as well rip the band aid off.

The pre dp players were asked not to come around by the Bennett group. June invited them back. They were welcomed as evidenced by Dickerson and James showing up at several games.

Damn, man. WTF?!? Told your nephew to not even take a visit?!? What is the "secret nefarious" black eye on SMU that all these people keep referencing??? This is what I asked after the Phil Bennett article "people told me to stay away"? What is "IT"? I seriously want to know because I just don't get it. Is it Turner? What's the deal?!? Serious replies please. I really want to get to get to the bottom of it. I feel very naive all of a sudden. I don't get it. Eric is inetitilted to his opinion. Can't say I agree with him. I just think that he is being a friend to a friend by going to bat for him. Although, I wish he would realize and remember that he still has lots of friends on the hilltop and that we are his friends as well.

Great point. Seems like the media turned on Jones with the two ridiculous blowouts so Steinberg had to go get ED for damage control.

I guess this shows it was not for personal reasons.

Keep in mind June was here because of him. He makes some valid points about the old thinking in the administration offices. I am sure he is frustrated, buut he leaves out some important information. Dear Eric I am your biggest fan and admire what June did here, BUT:

1. He didn't recruit (especially after Klemm left)
2. He shouldn't have accepted the AZ ST. offer and then came back and said "I am happy and this is where God wants me." That is a total slap in the face, looking back he should have been man enoough to resign at that point for the better of the program.
3. If you cannot compete against North Texas you are not trying cause they are no good. Their QB is a stiff from Navarro that can't play on a big boy stage. JUNE JONES WTH have you been doing the last 3 years????
4. HS coaches don't like him here.
5. You are a QB GURU with NFL ties where are the QB's?

I am sorry but the list has gotten large and concerning. Eric you are way out of line and for June not trying in the recruiting game because you can't get someone in is no reason to STOP RECRUITING.

BTW June did a fantastic job winning with Phil Bennetts players, where are his own players?
