The fact is that you have to hire a head coach and a full staff of assistants that are going to recruit the area. I even faintly recall praise for June and the staff when they came on board for trying to recruit locally.

You make any kind of excuse for your boy Jones. What next are you going to lobby for Mason to get the job?

There is literally not an excuse in his entire post. He said you have to hire a head coach and a full staff that will recruit the entire area, which he and everyone else knows June did not do. How is that an excuse?

Exactly. Obviously our coaches didn't show up at local schools. But the local colleges aren't just going to hand recruits to us, and it isn't just "hiring their guy", which is what we did with Tubbs. Maybe I should give him, a break because we hadn't fixed admissions at that point, but still you have to hire guys who not only have the ties but are great recruiters. It isn't enough to just hire Highland Parks Offensive Line coach or something like that.

Why did you use Edmondson as an example of JJ trying to do this in a previous post? A majority of your replies to JJ criticism come across as excuses. That said, your post above is spot on. You've got a find a connected HS coach who can sell, sell, sell.

Said it 4 years ago...shocking how little the offensive coaches recruited around here. Of course it didn't help when Rheinbolt said that Louisianna high school football and its recruits were better. How many stud receivers has Jason Phillips brought in? His abusive behavior has been a negative instead of a positive. Where are Junes connections to players with a South Pacific ancestory around Trinity. Only one here because his older brother was already on the roster. Do you think they thought so highly of themselves that former players would just send their sons to play for them so they didn't recruit

My Edmondson example was just because as I recall he was hired by Bennett and at the time he was described as someone who had huge roots with HS coaches. The hope was that he would have a positive impact on recruiting. I honestly don't remember if he did or not. I was trying to see if there was actually some positive return from SMU hiring a texas based coach in the past, and that was the only relevant example I could come up with. I don't recall anyone from the Bennett or Cavan era claiming strong texas HS roots.

Not a lot of merit in beating a dead horse. June has ridden Liberty and Justice into the sunset. Time to move on.

It's nice to see the media--local and national--provide a fair assessment of JJ's tenure, including lack of recruiting efforts. I thought JJ and Leigh would be out in front with their spin. I'm glad we're getting our version of events first. If Hart and/or SMU is responsible for this, then well done.

I'm also surprised they are telling a fairly accurate story. After the NT loss, it's kind of hard to tell it another way.
