In that situation you can only really use your Timeouts when they got to 1st and goal. USF used one on First Down, pass was incomplete on 2nd down-I guess Mason thought the clock might limit their play calling

Not sure that I would have used a time-out on that last play. They were scrambling just to get the play off and it was not inconceivable that a false start or an illegal motion or hold might have ended the game with the 22 second runoff. In fact there was offensive PI in the endzone that wasn't called. That's one where the defense either makes the play, or it doesn't. Although using 3 timeouts to ice the kicker on the PAT might have been warranted.
