I hate Ohio State/Big10/Midwest in general so if Ohio State gets manhandled then the committee obviously got it wrong and will have to look into 8 teams. If Ohio State keeps it close/wins they will have validated their decision and nothing will need to be done to expand it.

It will eventually go to 8 teams. There will be a P5 program that gets left out every year. It was TCU/Baylor this year but next year it could be Big State School U that won't put up with that. Once everyone figures out that it means more money and the P5 will still hold a monopoly on access then it'll get done.

8 teams would be better for everyone IMO

The NY6 bowls would rotate as the quarter and semifinal games each year and with eight, an undefeated G5 team with OOC wins over a P5 could get in

New Mexico would be lunacy. You add a state that produces 2 college recruits a year and has no TV market in the entire state. If they are going to have to expand then why not move toward an opponent for West Virginia or states West Virginia recruits in. Cincy and UCF at least are in states with millions of new viewers and hundreds of football recruits. UCF is already the largest school in the country in total students right -I think I've read that and its a very young school

I could see UCF as an option. The reality is this. Texas and OU could not give a flip that Baylor and TCU are out of the playoff. The Big 12 answers to Texas. Period. If and only if, Texas or Oklahoma get snubbed out of the playoff b/c of no conference championship game will the Big 12 explore expansion. They will view this as an anomaly and carry on with 10 teams.

I still have no idea why Iowa State is in the Big12. They are terrible and in a terrible market and are very far away. If you are gonna have a school that's terrible why not have them right down the road? For all the reasons that people say SMU doesn't make any sense, there are far more reasons that Iowa State doesn't make any sense.

UCF was founded in 1963, but didn't actually open until 1968.

Yes, I believe UCF just passed 60,000. And USF isn't too far behind. The two schools are only about 85 miles apart - UCF in Orlando and USF in Tampa. I'm not sure how USF ended up in Tampa which is on the central west coast of FL.

Yes if USF had shown anything in a decade then the Big 12 would probably add both if they HAD to go 12-(not saying they do). But USF hasn't even built new facilities like UCF-which is pretty mind boggling.

Weren't the coaches still based in trailers the year they reached #2 in the polls?

It is the Hartford Currant (i.e., UCONN) and they don't wish for this...

The Hartford Courant's source is a radio station in Nashville...hence CMF's comment

USF was on the fast track. They went D1 in 2001 as an independent, join C-USA in 2003 and the Big East in 2005. In 2007 they got as high as #2 in the AP poll. Since then they have slowly regressed. I'm not sure what happened but as you mentioned, they would definitely be in a P5 if they hadn't fallen off.

On the merits, you are absolutely correct. But Iowa State is where it is because its a legacy program from the old Big-8, so it got to come along for the ride when they merged with parts of the SWC. And no current P-5 conference has ever kicked out an existing member since the start of the BCS era (that I can think of).

I think that pretty much sums up the P-5 schools today.

I'm going to tell you that Tulane is at the top of their list, but I guarantee you the Big XII runs the numbers and they take a look at the Wave. They bring a brand new major TV market and access to arguably pound-for-pound the richest recruiting area in the country. The only question is whether Tulane actually cares enough to start trying to actually compete.
