While the people who pay big donations for the good seats on the West Side of the stadium would go ballistic, the Uconn game provided an "out of the box" idea.

Typically, the "home" side of a stadium is on the same side as the press box/luxury boxes. At Rentschler, Uconn's team is opposite the press box and the luxury boxes.

Objectively, this arrangement has a few interesting features:
1) Essentially, you can create "two" home sides instead of one. The fans on the West Side get all the amenities and can see the faces of the coaches and players. The fans on the East Side get to sit closer to the players. Bottom line, the value of the East Side seats would go up. Away fans could be placed in the endzone.
2) The student section could be moved directly behind the SMU bench if we wanted (it is against rules to have the student section behind the visiting bench).
3) Because the TV cameras are in/on the pressbox, they end up pointing at the "home" side of the field instead of the "away" side. When your stadium is full, this is not an issue. When your have attendance issues (and away teams that don't travel), why not have cameras pointed at the "less empty" side.

NOTE - I attended the Uconn game. While the attendance was horrible, the TV didn't really show how miserable the weather was. It was cold, windy, and raining most of the game. UConn people say that it was the worst weather that they have ever had at a game. They typically draw in the 25-30K range despite their miserable on field performance the past few years.

Sigh...the West side is the Home side, the East side is the home side, the South side is the Home side already. Visitors are only allotted a couple of sections. It's our fans that perceive it otherwise

And anyone who has sat on the East side knows why the West side is more valuable: SHADE

I understand that completely.

My suggestion was targeted at finding inexpensive ways to get more people to "want to" sit on the East Side. To do that, we need to increase the value proposition of the East Side seats without springing for a English Premier League style roof.

Go retractable roof. Any other colleges have a retractable roof stadium?
