I started school when frosh were ineligible. The philosophy was simply that college was first and foremost an academic first priority. Prove yourself academically first then you can competed in sports. The frosh eligibility rule was changed in 1968. I think most actions by the professional leagues could probably be challenged in court and they would lose. The only rule that makes sense and might hold up is that used by baseball. Baseball gives you the option to go pro right out of high school with no phony age 19 guidelines or college years for eligibility. If, however, you do not turn pro after high school, you must stay 3 year in college. This forces a kid to make a decision with all options open. It allows the elite kids the option to immediately start their pro career and for the other kids MLB gets a kid with 3 years of college coaching, more maturity and the ability to better scout and assess.

I forgot to mention that certain talking heads in the radio sports media are reporting that the PAC 10 is also on board with the Big 10 in pursuing the frosh ineligibility issue. Problem is that the other P5 conferences will not approve.
