Re: SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic CommunitySome of the 25,000 fans we need could come from there. Latinos love football more than people think and usually dont have allegiances to any school in particular.
Re: SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic CommunityIt's needed in the sports market, and less in enrollment. Maybe it was the fraternity system, but my fraternity had tons of "hispanics", which some of them really hate that word. Mainly a lot of guys from Mexico City, Monnterrey, Guatemala City, and Some randoms from Honduras. I would easily say that a quarter or more of the fraternity was one.
Re: SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic CommunityHelp me please. What is the preferred term of reference for someone with a Spanish heritage via Meso America with or without an admixture of Amerind blood?
Re: SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic Community
Hispanic or Latino/Latina Most other terms, such as Chicano, tend to refer to people with ties to a specific country/area. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic CommunityWhat is the origin of latino? You dont see that term applied to italian french or (if there were any) romanian colonies.

Re: SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic CommunityLatin America
Re: SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic CommunityYes, fairly obvious, but louisiana isnt called latin america, and various french and italian colonies in Africa arent called Latin Africa. Just seems odd. Furthermore "latins" as a people are already taken by central italians in antiquity. "I think Couchem is right."

Re: SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic CommunityLatino does also refer to Italian origin.
Re: SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic CommunityI have always found that term offensive to speakers of Latin, but maybe that's just me.

Really. I thought that Latin was a dead language. #HammerDown
Re: SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic CommunitySMU needs to court the entire DALLAS area, not just a slice of it. That will take change. Someone posted SMU's crowd numbers when we were one of the best teams in college football. It was about 30,000. I remember those days both at the Cotton Bowl and at Texas Stadium...lots of empty seats. To be a worthy school for a big conference 30,000 is not a good number. This bothers me much more than the coaching staff. (Keeping the coaching staff with a 30,000 limit might become a problem). I've made several suggestions to develop fans that didn't go over very well on this board. HOWEVER, I predict numbers at football games will be Hart's biggest challenge in the coming future.

Agreed. #HammerDown
Re: SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic CommunityStart SMU Deportes and be the first D1 school in the country (would we?) to broadcast football and basketball in both English and Spanish and broadcast all soccer games. To become, act as if. Proceed as though the Latino community should and does embrace smu because smu embraces it. Have a studio show all in Spanish, along the lines of the Mexican soccer league broadcasts. Make sure we are the lead on noticias en Univision every night. Create an avp of latino relations within the AD.

This. Very creative. About 25 feet from the Hillcrest track... With the boots so tall and the writing on the wall...
