Big Ron inherited a little bit of talent from his successor but like many first year coaches his first recruiting class was not so loaded with talent. He instituted the "Mustang Reminder" which was a brutal series of sprints and push ups from one end of the field to the other for various team infractions. Once a player built up a certain number of these reminders they left. Got rid of a lot of players that way to pave the way for the likes of ED.

I don't respond to that kind of coaching at all. I'm also glad to have Chad Morris at SMU instead of that guy at Houston.

The open checkbook didn't hurt Meyer either

He is talking about getting rid of players not attracting them. LOL.

It doesn't take much talent to praise them either.

I didn't respond to it either but I saw some players who did. I had heard that PB could be pretty abusive. I don't personally know anyone who played for him but I once saw him grab a kid by the facemask and twist his head. That got one of my HS coaches fired on the spot.

Coaches tend to evolve. My college d coordinator is now a Texas HS d coordinator and he's mellowed on many levels

I worked my boot off to escape a podunk town and earned scholarships to get my degree. I bought a house before the age of 25 on my own merits. Good luck living off the government teat when you drop out because 7-11 is a job not a career.

I grew up in a town of less than 600 people in rural East Texas. My folks were both public school teachers/coaches. I worked two on campus jobs and had a generous scholarship package otherwise SMU would have been an impossibility. But yeah, I guess we are all just bunch of snooty elitists just like UH is nothing but a haven for the couldn't get into Texas Tech crowd.
Back off Warchild seriously.

As someone said earlier, this approach works well if you can back it up with W's...see Saban, Urban, and to a lesser extent Brian Kelly. But if you lose, it can get ugly fast. See Derek Dooley, Mark Mangino, Rich Rod at Michigan. If you don't win big players lose respect and you have a snowball of [deleted]
Biggest concern about Herman: outside of working under Urban Meyer, what has he ever done? Chad brought his offense that he's run for years to Clemson and was very successful there as an OC. Herman's offenses did very well at OSU (obviously) but how much of that was Herman and how much was Urban, who is regarded as an offensive genius?

Herman beat the Coogs with "inferior talent" when he was OC at Rice.
I didn't know it was possible to be denied admission to Tech.
You guys had more chutzpah than I did. I was too intimidated to go to TCU with all their preppiness and apparent cost. My dad commuted there one year before transferring to NTSU.

• At Iowa State, Herman's well-balanced offense was very evident as Iowa State quarterback Austen Arnaud ended his career as the Cyclones No. 2 all-time leading passer with 6,777 yards and 42 touchdown passes ,while running back Alexander Robinson finished his Iowa State career as the Cyclones' fourth all-time leading rusher with 3,309 yards.
• Herman spent 2007 and 2008 as offensive coordinator at Rice before heading to Iowa State. During his two seasons with the Owls, his offenses broke over 40 school records and, in his second season, the Owls won 10 games and went to a bowl for the first time since 1954.
