Don't misinterpret what I have said :). I didn't say he or his staff were good recruiters. Just good talent evaluators. No, I don't think we were just an S&C coach away. Like I mentioned, S&C coach, plus current coaches plus scheme plus new players. I don't think I could be much clearer.

What I DO think is that unlike June's predecessors, he was able to uplift the "average" player of the team to a level that was "average". Which is a significant jump over the average player in prior regimes (better record even though playing with a outdated scheme). This, IMHO, was due to an ability to scout well and find players that others weren't recruiting heavily who could be average D1 players. But, as has been mentioned ad nauseum, the staff didn't put the effort into recruiting that would land top-tier talent.

He essentially established a decent base and then sprinkled talent acquired by transfer or the Bennett regime on top of it to create a halfway decent team.

Because of the change in coaching, S&C, and Scheme, Morris is going to start with that solid base and add the players he has acquired through recruiting and transfer and get his thing rolling quicker than anticipated.

Let's not forget that at least the OL, QB, Gaines, Sutton (8 starters on offense), DL, LB, Star, 1 CB and 1 S (9 starters on defense, 8 if the SC transfer starts)) are coming pre-Morris. If we get to 6-6 or better, it is an indictment on the coaching ability, high end recruiting, scheme, and S&C fo the previous regime, but somewhat of a confirmation that they actually did scout DITR pretty well on the Betamax projectors they were using...

They were pretty much hit and miss on DITR's that is what caused depth issues. If June could have recruited mid or low P5 tier players that would have been good. I don't really know what your definition of top tier talent because we are not going to land a class full of 5 star players at this point. Coach Morris is recruiting mid tier and lower tier P5 players which will make a difference in the long run. Just want our current players to have fun this year, learn, and not have high pressure put on them. People usually play better that way imo.

June hired the S&C Coach who had previously been his S&C Coach at Hawaii to mixed reviews. Morris hired an assistant S&C who had never run his own program before. Who got better results

Glad to read the report of Saturday's affair. Sounds as if the team will provide a little excitement this season. I have no visions of us upseting Baylor or TCU, but for so long I have just wanted to be able to play with them. I am so looking forward to this season and will be there for every game.

Severt has fallen to 6/7th string QB?

Maybe so. And this is not a brief for "paul" who, if now identified, has been an irritating poster in ways that are not relevant to a discussion of sports. If everyone on this board were a Dawkins disciple his comments about football might be better received. Maybe Jordan Severt is fifth string - at least I don't find Jordan Tolbert named by Pony Pride - on the roster as a QB or any other position.

On the other hand, Pony Pride also told us that Jordan Severt made a couple of good plays. Only Colbert was mentioned more among the QBs.

I am 100% confident that we are 150% more prepared and better positioned now than this time last year. I just now hope the students understand that they need to get on this ride at the ground floor and participate because they will help accelerate the growth. Looking forward to a season whose gains will only hint at the potential that is being unleashed every game as we grow to new highs.

Oh, and dude is a troll and an annoying one at that.

The students just had to send them the film. We would have had great players had they just sent us the tapes!

The coaches have not announced a depth chart. Colbert, Krstich and Hicks took snaps before Severt, but I don't know how much can be read into the order. There were some players at various positions who went in the scrimmage, subbed out and then came back in later. Coaches are saying little about who ranks where.

My memory is that we saw a depth chart each week in the notes seen on SMU Mustangs before each game. Any word on whether this coach will do the same or something different?
