Locker talk is that ST Analyst walked in on day one with chip on his shoulder and put his sites on the punter. Shame, Koonce was best thing going on ST last season

How about HP's own Mitchell Kaufman breaking into the two deep as a true freshman at a position he has been playing for about a month. Nice work Mitchell.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Some surprises. McCarty is the weakest link in this entire lineup. Will be interesting to see how much meaningful playing time guys like Castille and Thomas get. Wyatt and Montgomery starting are mild surprises. Zelt not starting (probably due to injury). Those are some weak DEs - we'll see I guess. Assuming there will be a lot of DL rotations though.

Even if healthy, Zelt would be behind Wood. I think they have Seals and Pruitt switched. In the spring, Pruitt was the strong side DE and Seals the weak. Kind of surprised that Nabusoshi or one of the Scotts didn't make the two deep at DE.

It's worth noting that no true frosh in the 2 deep on OL or DL.

The 9M is the deep threat physical edge receiver, the 2M is the playmaker Sammy Watkins guy who can go over the top or catch the bubble screen.

The 5M is what D Joseph was playing in the spring and is a possession receiver, lots of drag routes, and expected to block pretty well.

with this lineup, I would expect to see the 3Back and the 9M on the same side of the field as the 2M with the 5M wide on the other side. This allows for our more physical players to block on the bubble screen with deep threats on the other side. I think Thomas is backing up Sutton simply because those are the best two blocking WR on the team. Gaines and either one of those guys outside gives a pretty good advantage blocking on corners. Very good advantage as long as Walker and the RBs can provide enough of a threat to the weak side and keep the defense honest.

Another surprise is seeing David Johnson buried right now. Granted, he's new and as Morris said, the 2 deep will change quite a bit over the next several weeks. Just interesting they don't put him higher up given his experience. Of course, against Baylor, you just put out your 11 fastest guys and roll the dice. :-)

I wouldn't spend much time worrying about newcomers who have been here for 3 weeks not starting. If they list 3 deep at a position they are likely still in the mix. You don't want to throw a newcomer out there in Game 1 as a definite starter. You ease them into playing time after determining how they react to the---Fog of War 8)

whose going to start by the end of the James Madison game is really the issue with so many newcomers

A little bit of a surprise, but there is an "OR", so he is 2 deep. Montgomery looked good in the spring. The bigger surprise to me is that Montgomery seems to have locked up a spot and the others who we thought were vying for a starting sport are loaded up behind Ho Rich.

Thanks smusic. First time in 6 years I'll miss the home opener. Always enjoy following the firsties. Looking forward to Matt Davis at the helm. Gotta be realistic going up against the Bears at the get go but there's more to this game than the final score.
