No. He has never done anything bad to me or to SMU. Basically, his crime as a parent was that (1) he tried to get his kid a scholarship and (2) he got involved when he heard Leach (who is actually a nutjob) allegedly did nutjob things to his son. In the same position, I would be 90+% of parents would have tried to do the same thing. The other issue is politics. His social conservatism rubs many people the wrong way. But, since he is on the "wrong side," he cannot get a job while that [deleted] Olbermann gets fired over and over.
Diggety is spot on. Agree 100%. My issue is that CJ makes it far to easy for the haters. The whole Tech situation could have and should have been handled very differently. When you think about it, Dickerson did the same thing - made it far to easy for the haters in LA prior to heading to Indy. Currently, I would put Jay Cutler into that very same category. Doesn't mean I don't like CJ or ED or appreciate what they did for SMU.

Got to agree with Stallion on this. I remember some great days with Craig and the Pony Express. I still have a photo of him on the playing field at Arkansas with my then 10 year old son, after SMU had demolished the Razorbacks in our Polyester Bowl game. Always a very nice and accessible guy. I remember after we beat TCU one time on a pass to Craig, a sports writer wrote "There may be a linebacker in America that can run with Craig James, but he doesn't play for TCU!" I like him.
Long live Inez Perez!

Well put.

He's just an easy target for a school with a giant bullseye on its back.

Never had a problem with CJ. The joke is funny to me, I just wish it was directed at someone who deserved it, like OJ Simpson or someone.

The hookers thing is a tired internet joke that needs to go away. As for CJ himself - glad that he's still involved w/SMU as one of our all-time greats. Personally, I think he's made himself a very easy target for critics (tech/leach fiasco and his joke of a run for office)

There are no hookers associated with TCU b/c TCU girls don't charge. That is what I heard.

That's their story. They say donations are for their companionship only

The bottom line is that football is all TCU has and it's a somewhat recent thing (they were always one of the few penciled in wins for us when I was in school). They have an inferiority complex and, and as it usually does, it comes out as arrogance. Now, I respect Patterson and what he's done there - they've EARNED their way into the Big12 for sure unlike the whackoffs. But, as the fans and students go (and the school itself): meh.

While recognizing that he was part of the Pony Express, my reason for disliking Craig James has to do with the fact that when he had a microphone and a national spotlight, he was not only NOT using it to help SMU, but openly using it to undermine and make fun of SMU. Repeatedly, on multiple broadcasts. Boston College hasn't exactly been lighting it up, but Doug Flutie was never bad mouthing his alma mater (and was not involved in the era that brought the institution down in the first place).
I also believe he charged appearance fees for SMU events (like the Conference USA announcement way back when).
If someone can assure me with factual evidence that he is making big donations to help SMU athletics, or otherwise assisting his alma mater in meaningful ways, then perhaps I can forgive him. Then I will only have to hold my nose at his politics.
