While working in a prosecutors office, we had a case where the guy was schizophrenic and thought he was an arch-angel of death. Killed a woman and her infant child. When his case was called, the Judge called him by his name, let's say it was Smith. He responded that he was the Arch-angel so and so, to which the judge replied, let's just call you Mr. Smith for fun. He was sent to the mental hospital for observation. Two months later he's sent back with a letter that so long as he takes these massive doses of meloril, he's fine. Needless to say, he was found not guilty by reason of insanity, and released shortly thereafter. He killed again, and then got to stay.

Mentally ill can only be committed while they pose a danger to themselves or others. Thing is that once many are treated with medication in a very short period they may no longer pose such a threat--but many don't like taking their medication and their condition can spiral out of control quickly if they don't

Given the Dallas DA's recent mental health issues, it will be interesting to see how she reacts to the situation.

How has Susan Hawk not resigned yet? It's amazing that we managed to elect someone to the DA's office that's even less competent than Craig Watkins

How kicking the mentally ill out of places like Terrell only for them to end up in Huntsville is "humane" is beyond me.
