Would Patterson leave for USC? Frog fan will say no way, and highly unlikely, but at some point you are offered one of the 10 best jobs in the country and you take it. And yes, Frog fan, I know TCU would match or beat any $$$ USC offered and, yes, I know his wife is happy in FW. Not the point.

Patterson used to have some quote about never leaving TCU and not believing any rumor of him taking another job east of where he was, or something like that.

USC is absolutely a better job than aTm. There are few jobs in the country better than SC - They were 30 seconds away from a 3 peat 10 years ago. Pat Haden 100% needs to make a good hire this go around (if he isnt fired before) after the last two blown hires. It'll be interesting b/c they're going to swing for the fences on this search

USC is a better job than A&M, but is it worth resetting your job security back to zero for a job that probably won't pay you more in a state that taxes highest wage earners something like 13%? Sumlin is recruiting very well at A&M and is well liked there. I think he's content to stick it out there until the NFL bug bites him

Gary Patterson is interesting -- I don't know if he'd ever leave TCU but USC practically recruits itself....it would be interesting to see what he could do with top five recruiting classes year in and year out

Another thing to remember- USC had the #1 recruiting class in the nation last year. The talent is already in place to win big right away, so I expect the job will be a lot more coveted than when Sark took over

i have been looking everywhere for the Patterson quote I am thinking of and can't find it. I think it was when he was linked to Auburn and it was something to the effect of "I tell every recruit that my name will come up in coaching rumors and don't believe any of them and I would never take a job east of the Mississippi"

Everybody's goal is to get one of the job's where you can win a national championship. A&M has all the tools, but they haven't done it in the modern era. USC is a better job than A&M for that reason alone.

As for job security, I always say that in college football, if you get offered a better job, take the job. There is no loyalty in this business and it is a matter of time before the fanbase gets sick of you. We got sick real quick of the coach that took us to our first bowlgame in 20 years. UT got sick of Mack Brown. Spurrier was the only good coach South Carolina ever had and there were some people sick of him. NTSU fired the coach that led them out of the Sunbelt.

Is Sumlin a 6-6 season (I know that looks unlikely now) from some [deleted] 10%'er on twitter asking what he has ever done without Johnny Football? Absolutely.

THis is not even debatable. USC is the best job in the country. Also - they would not be interested in Patterson. i can't imagine more of a fish out of water than GP in LA
