Who did Southern Miss fire for no reason? Moniker is playing for a conference championship this season.

ECU needs to really get a new hoops coach. ECU should go after the NIU coach if they can get him.

They are morons. All of his losses were to bowl games and most of them were very close games.

If the people in Tulane have brains, they will be giving him a call.

Here is part of their excuse the the Rivals guy wrote for firing him.

This past season is one in which the Pirates had solid opportunities to win several of the games that they lost in either holding leads or losing by small margins. The margin for error proved to be small and with injuries mounting up on the offensive line and elsewhere including at quarterback where projected starter Kurt Benkert never saw the field due to a knee injury, it proved to be tough sledding all season long.

Jeff Bower

They did very well with Fedora after Bower. That was not a bad move. And neither was firing Levine after he lead the team to a bowl game and getting Herman. Just have to see how it plays out.

It was stupid as hell to fire Bower.

They got one USM-type season and then watched the inevitable happen - they got bigger-better-dealed by Fedora, something that NEVER would have happed with Bower, who was an alum and passed up multiple opportunities to stay home. When that happened it opened them up to crappy-coach land and they tanked.

They've recovered, and good for them, but it cost them four years, something can't afford to lose a lot of. Hopefully they (and ECU) have learned their lesson.

Fedora did well for more than one season. Moniker is doing well now also. Houston could have hung on to Levine and gotten to bowl games but Herman is taking them to anther level. We'll just have to wait and see if that happens at ECU.

I went to the Uconn game against ECU with a friend.

Both of us thought their QBs poor play (we didn't know the starter had been injured) prevented them from beating Uconn.

You're right, I'm sorry. They got three mediocre years and one good one which is almost as good as they got with Bower for 14 straight years and 15 out of 17. And now that Monken has them going again, how long till he teaches them that they're a stepping-stone program and have to restart again? Already there's media speculaton:

http://impact360.ms/view/full_story/269 ... sw_article

What are they going to say to keep him if he decides he wants more money and a bigger field? If you stay here and win you can build something? We can offer you job stability and possibly membership in a better conference? We will reward you for your hard work and loyalty?

FWIW, I genuinely think if Bower had been kept they would be in the American right now. Lack of media market or not, Southern Miss should be right in the thick of things with the American pulling upsets and having top 25 programs, but they got greedy and the program went to hell right when the inevitable Big East reformation came, so they found themselves cut out of the next round and only now are they starting to remind people who they are. If ECU isn't careful they could end up doing the exact same thing.
