Re: Is this what finally does it?Personally I hate it on behalf of the fans, but I still cannot fault it.

Re: Is this what finally does it?It would make it more of a reward for teams and players if there were fewer bowls. Maybe an actual "reward" beyond just some swag for going to a bowl game. Hate to think this would drive a playoff expansion. I'm afraid the contempt we hold for these lesser bowls would then extend for the whole regular season. If Ohio State has 2 or 3 losses they'll still get into the playoffs. It just cheapens the whole rest of the season. Let those 2-4 loss teams go to good, non playoff bowls. No more 6-6 teams in bowl games. The draftable players will quit showing up for non playoff games.
Re: Is this what finally does it?Norm lined this out for us years ago.
Re: Is this what finally does it?During one of our Christmas lunches, we offered up two suggestions that might keep players participating in the bowls. First, move the Heisman vote and presentation to the week of the playoff finals. Second, expand the playoffs to eight teams, making for four important playoff bowls and three playoff games. The problem is too few bowls are relevant.
After another round of drinks, we all agreed that neither will ever happen...
