The consistency that Brown brings to the offense is really important to how the team operations. Even last year, it was boom or bust with the offense because of the inaccuracy. Ben is the wild card changeup when things stall out. Really hard for a defense with the QBs so different.

All of that said, Hicks' decision making was much, much quicker than it was the first few games. Simplification of the offense that was likely done for Brown and to help receivers get their routes correct really helped Ben out as well.

Say what you want about the 2 point conversion, but he made great decisions that entire drive, and the TD pass was a hell of a pass.

You could also see the confidence and excitement in Hicks’ body language before the 2pt conversion. He was ready and 100% sure it was gonna work.

As Hicks said in postgame this had to mean a lot for him and the upper classmen on our squad to get the win after years of losing this game. Special moment! What a cool way (and gutsy call by SD) for Brown to get reps and play well and Hicks to come in and close it out. Man if that pass gets batted down SD would be taking some serious heat! So happy for him he made the right call and got his first W. Let’s tune up against HBU and shock the world at UCF.

Was hoping for SD's 2 point conversion call. Defense was wearing down fast. Probably a 55 - 45
chance for a win with the gadget play called. Sonny said after the game that this play he saves
for this situation is never covered, and Navy covered it better than anyone else.

But, we wouldn't have been tied at the end of the game if Sonny had taken 2 point blank field
goals earlier in the game for the 6 points we desperately needed later :!:
May the forth be with us.

I think Dykes felt with Brown we in there we could make a 4th and one. But Navy had his number. We needed Kemon and those are good calls. No fault there IMHO.

I got excited the second I saw Hicks make the '2' sign. Felt, convert or not, it was the right call, and the assumption you make is that this play is already called well before the game begins. Nice to see us straight up execute.

He did that 3 times, and converted on 1.

Back when I was a middle, and high school student, my family and I nicknamed Hayden Fry "Field
Goal Fry" because he would never gamble on 4th and short when he had a sure 3 points earlier in
a game with a close score .

As you get older, and gray, you learn those field goals add up earlier in a game, and missed gambles come back to haunt you :!:

Well as you witness 20 of losses to Navy with their unique offense and ball control, you learn that you need TDS and not fgs. I think every offensive call was correct except perhaps the first field goal try.

And one out of three gets you to break even on points.

You are assuming a normal field goal likelihood. Our current squad changes the math, which is why Sonny is more likely to try for touchdowns.

I think analytics show it’s almost always worth it to go for it on 4th and short.

I live in the land of the high school coach that never punts and every kickoff is an onside kick. He is setting records for wins. He says you get 4 downs to make 10 yards. Why waste one kicking.

Great play and greater leadership Saturday by Hicks. First class performance.
