Re: No reason to continue playing UNTRice is not a school we should be looking to resume a home/home series with, but would they be better than Texas State? Playing UNT makes a lot more sense to me and comparing attendance figures between those 2 opponents would appear to support that argument. The problem we have is that UNT is to SMU what SMU is to TCU, i.e., a nice "local" game to play and an opponent we have a significant history with but one in which the "favorite" has little to gain but plenty to lose if they are upset in those games.
Re: No reason to continue playing UNTSignificant history?
We are 32-6 and like announcers pointed out; they haven't beaten us at home since 1933. Whereas TCU and us are at least more balance 40-51-7 Insert "this is fine" GIF

We’ve got a future series with vandy on the schedule. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Re: No reason to continue playing UNTSorry, but SMU v UNT and SMU v TCU are nothing alike and that is a fact. SMU and TCU shared a conference for about 80+ years and had nationally significant games for many years. SMU held a healthy lead in the series until recently. SMU and UNT have never shared a conference and SMU has always been dominant in the series. That said, I think we should keep both teams on the schedule if possible. Both are local with significantly reduced expenses and increased attendance for all teams as it is easy for visiting fans to travel.
Re: No reason to continue playing UNTTotally disagree. We should keep playing North Texas. It's not the sexiest game in the world, but it's a winnable game, it's one of very few fans would drive to, and we recruit against them on a bunch of players. SMU is the better school and in Dallas, and if we win that game, we should win just about every recruiting battle. I don't know any numbers, but there were quite a lot of green shirts in the stands last night -- compare the visitors' section to a game like when Temple rolls into town. Besides, Denton is a dump, but I'd still rather go there than Waco. Beating baylor would mean more, to be sure, but Waco is an awful place. Don't dismiss UNT as a school we "normally dominate" -- it was only a year ago they kicked our asses. Sure feels good to win, but let's win a few more before we act like we're too good to play them.
Great win last night. Beat Texas State! Go PONIES!
Re: No reason to continue playing UNT
I'm talking about today's world where TCU enjoys a significant conference advantage over SMU, just as we have enjoyed that advantage vs NTSU/UNT forever
Re: No reason to continue playing UNT
Yes, like it or not a "significant history" because we have played them more times than any school other than our old SWC mates. A series doesn't have to be competitive to have a significant history
Re: No reason to continue playing UNT
We do "normally dominate" them, just look at our margins of victory throughout the series. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: No reason to continue playing UNTUNT is the perfect game for us to play.
1) We should beat them every year but they aren’t an embarrassing opponent like Houston Baptist. When we beat them, it will help for bowl purposes. 2) We don’t have to pay them anything to play us because they are a low cost home/home opponent 3) They travel better than anyone we normally play at home except TCU. 4) We all have UNT grads we can argue with about the game. Perfect Schedule once we get the program stabilized: Week 1: home patsy like Texas State Week 2: UNT home/home Week 3: TCU home/home Week 4: Pay Away Game - SEC, B10, Etc. or home/home like Vanderbilt, Kansas, Colorado Best case: Week 4 becomes Thanksgiving Time Period Rivalry game against BYU. The AAC would have to make this work, but they travel in droves and need “good” late games on their schedule. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: No reason to continue playing UNTI understand the idea that we should play bigger or better teams, but I like playing UNT. I love the idea of playing UNT, TCU, and Baylor each year. They are regional rivalries and usually pretty good teams.
Re: No reason to continue playing UNTPlaying NTSU should not be routine. Once a decade is enough. How far would we fall in any rankings if we lose to them? It'll be interesting if we climb any in rankings after beating them (maybe just pass some teams who had a bad loss). OK, they bring a few fans. Ark St or a Louisiana team could fill the schedule and would be viewed as a more quality opponent. I agree with the idea of trying to get bu or one of the old SWC teams in addition to froggy on the schedule. I heard Saban crying that no one will play him. We should invite them for a home and home

No reason to continue playing UNTI like the idea Digetydog had about scheduling BYU frequently late in the year.
- They want late season matchups - They travel well to DFW - They are a respectable foe in perception- no loss of respect if you lose - SMU is one of the non-P5 schools with a solid name ID in a G5 league that gets decent respect - Tv deal for them is VERY visible. CUSA is basically praying for NFL Network or CBS Sports cable channel half the country doesn’t get Good idea. I can see that as a win win.
