Once those degrees are in hand they'll both hit the portal

This is really interesting and I bet the ncaa takes a look at it. How many players will be 'encouraged' to redshirt when a team starts off poorly, so that it will make the team stronger the next year. Not sure that is what the ncaa had in mind when it set up the 4 game redshirt rule.

Tulane broke Houston. They should say they're sorry.

And Tulane and Tulsa and and and . Get real a broken leg to this guy or a dislocated shoulder to another and you could be 5 and 4.

Count me in the group that doesn’t think he’ll ever play another snap for UH.

I wonder if he wants to play his last season with Tom Herman?

Eh. Maybe, but it can’t look good to just quit on your team like this.

Besides, if the ultimate goal is to play in the NFL how does this look to scouts to do this?

Jesus. This is ‘coug it’ to beat all ‘coug it’s.

And perhaps another case of a helicopter Dad living vicariously through his son. Sounds like the kid is just a little conflicted right now.

This whole thing really is bizarre.

I do find it very difficult to believe they are both going to redshirt and be back though.

I see no reason for a program to do take advantage of the new redshirt rule like this, unless they are in some situation where they really think they could make a championship run the next season - but then wouldn't the players be more likely to just play and go pro if they are that good?

Strange days indeed.

My read on it WITHOUT knowing the facts, is that he wants to transfer but if he goes in the portal, Houston can revoke his scholarship - if he says he wants to redshirt, he stays on scholarship until after the season and assuming he graduates can graduate transfer to another school

"If" re: graduation. At first I was thinking this was iffy. But, then I remembered Pocahontas graduated there with a speech major and she's bright enough to redirect our economy.

This makes some sense. Very interesting to see this rule invoked, apparently, by players (and their parents) rather than by the school. None of this can be good for Coug High morale.
