Re: You’ll Have To Forgive SMU Fans..They’re New To All Of TThis team desperately needs some focus for this one - what they are very right about is none of our players (except a couple of the transfers) no how to get up for multiple games in a row when you are being successful. Road game after emotional wins vs rivals is a tough deal - and they (USF) have had a bye week right before this game. They have to win or their season really fades. We got work to do - so hopefully they are done patting themselves on the back and are focused bit time. Sonny and also Bueschel can probably help with the mindset.
Re: You’ll Have To Forgive SMU Fans..They’re New To All Of TThere's nothing wrong with that write up, honestly. He's not making fun of us... it's the truth. There's been nothing to cheer for post-DP in athletics other than Larry's bball teams and the handful of JJ bowl teams. Both were brief and fleeting.

Re: You’ll Have To Forgive SMU Fans..They’re New To All Of TWe do not want to be like TCU in 2005. Beat OU at OU's house and then the next week lose to SMU at our house. Got to remember that every game is a hard game and focus on all out effort.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Disagree.
Re: You’ll Have To Forgive SMU Fans..They’re New To All Of T
Completely disagree. Brown years were amazing and some of the best and loudest games at Moody ever. To simply gloss over those years is crazy. We've had our ups and downs for sure, but I've certainly had some incredibley memorable times watching our Mustangs over the years.
Re: You’ll Have To Forgive SMU Fans..They’re New To All Of T
Bingo....All of the buzz and positive attention SMU has received, will be flushed down the toilet, if we lose to what is perceived by 99.99% percent of the country, to a bad USF team. If we are not focused, it will be a loooong, sad trip home from Florida.
Re: You’ll Have To Forgive SMU Fans..They’re New To All Of TWritten by someone who I'm guessing has never been to an SMU game other than football and basketball, couldn't name 3 players in any other sport and couldn't tell Steve Lundquist from Luchi Gonzalez.
Re: You’ll Have To Forgive SMU Fans..They’re New To All Of TThey're from Florida, so no.
Re: You’ll Have To Forgive SMU Fans..They’re New To All Of TNot sure about the women's basketball in the 90s reference either. Other sports highs have been a whole lot better than being one and done repeatedly for a few years.

The women's team advanced beyond the first round in the NCAA tournament more than once.

I remember Rhonda's teams making the post season several times in the 90's and into the early 2000's but can't say I remember them ever winning even a 1st round game. I thought Travis took the women into the 2nd or 3rd round of the WNIT in his 1st season and remember thinking maybe this is the guy who can build this team into a top 25 program but the past 2 seasons left me deflated.

And not just the Brown years. The first year and a half of Jank was amazing. Remember we were 30-5 in 2016-2017. We were outstanding from 2013 through the end of 2017.
Re: You’ll Have To Forgive SMU Fans..They’re New To All Of TI will take the headline only and count the rest of his column as somewhat ridiculous.
However.... As an SMU fan from a young age who went there from 87 to 92, I recall a lot. I remember being very upset they were only #2 at the end of the '82 season. I was angry about the NCAA ignoring numerous paid players at A&M, Arkansas and UT, but nailing our program for things as minor as a coach giving a key chain to the little sister of a recruit. (true story) I was at the news conference when Forrest Gregg was hired. I was there for the thrilling UCONN victory in 1989 - and it still ranks as the best football game I've ever seen. I remember being thrilled to see the ponies get to a bowl game again. See them get votes in the AP poll, beat TCU, have winning seasons, etc. But this year.. is pretty different. We didn't play Michigan, OU, Notre Dame, and Alabama as non-conference opponents (not that we really ever do, but you get the point) We played Arkansas St., UNT, Texas State, and our annual rivalry game with TCU. Somewhat decent teams, but we were not their home game road-apple warm-up game like we had been so many times in the past. 4-0 is very different. It just feels different. We've had 5 game win streaks twice since 1989. We've been 4-1 a couple of times too. 5-0 would be huge. But to borrow the headline: Forgive this SMU fan if he is fearful we will lose today. Beating TCU was so big. Getting to 4-0 was huge. I feel like the players are still basking in the glow of all that. They went to the city council meeting and got all kinds of accolades. I just fear there will be an emotional let down today. USF is amped up for this game. Beating SMU would be a big deal for them. I hope the SMU team feels like getting to 5-0 would be a bigger deal. They should be able to win this game. But.. as a fan of this team... I just can't help but feel like somehow I will once again be disappointed. I really hope I'm wrong. Please forgive me, I'm new to all of this.

The women's team advanced to the NCAA second round in 1995, 1999, and 2000.
