1982 top 2 in final poll.
#1 Penn St 11-1
#2 SMU 11-0-1
With Penn St and SMU still unbeaten, this is looking eerily similar to 37 years ago.
Can’t think of 2 schools that have been through more hell since then. Welcome back to both.

Please don’t compare us to Penn state. Terrible people.

Paying players is no way in the same realm as what happen to those poor boys. Perv st should have gotten the DP.

The awesome thing about depth and the large number of high quality walkons we picked up in the last class is that they push the starters week in and week out. That is why we start off every single game really strong on offense and defense - the athleticism and talent on our scout teams allows our first team to be over-prepared for their opponents. There isn't a huge drop off in skill on the other side of the ball when we walk onto the field and play a game.

The second thing that depth does is provides a challenge to keep your job. If the first team gets lazy, the second team is right there wanting a spot in the lineup. If Roberson or Proche get sloppy, we have three frosh that are really skilled to step in. Even with Buechele, we have two really good backup quarterbacks if he doesn't do his film work.

So, I don't think it is going to happen. Turnovers and penalties can happen and mess up a game. But I don't think lack of effort or prep is going to be an issue with this squad.

As a side note - I'm telling you guys the reason we haven't offered a ton of scholarships is because they want to see how some of these walk-ons perform. I guarantee you that there are some scholarships sitting in reserve waiting for those guys.

I know I'm quoting myself. But everyone associated with the program needs to recognize how important the walkon program is, and how big of a deal it was to not only travel some of the walkons with the team yesterday, but to play them at the end of the game.
