I'd be worried if all our players "liked" Bennett. I know a highly successful college coach who always interviews prospective assistants the same way. His first question is: "When it comes to coaching, how important is it to you to be LIKED?" If the answer is anything other than "Not at all," he politely shows them the door, and his career winning pct is something like 69% over 20 yrs.

Gee- I wonder if any of the great coaches had people quit. Do you think Bear Bryant ever had anyone quit? Hmmm. This is a real puzzle. I think we should hold a popularity contest and ask the plkayers to vote for head coach. I'll bet that then then all would be happy.

:( Sam ...Is the "Barnett" you are talking about Anthony Barnett
because if it is that would be our two tops backups a cornerback gone (along with ervin mcgee)? Not to mention the Corners already to a hit with rutlege's departure and CD Moss moving to running back and then leaving, Fred Turner moving to wr and Ced Dorsey Moving to running.. all who came in as db's not to mention reggie gilford is now going into to adays as a running back. Although with have freshmen coming in this year, that gonna put us back a year because they are gonna have to go through the same learning transition theses guys went through. oooohhhhh my god....what if these incoming fresmen quit at the end of the year also!!! Plus our starting middle linebacker might be lost for the year and two adays have yet to start. You know we usaully lose two or three during that time......Lets's hope for the best  :( :(

You seem to be enjoying the potential bad news way too much tailwind. With all your of exclamation points, oops and LOL drops. The ultimate chicken little comment was what if the incoming freshman quit the end of the year also!!!! Its also funny how you just started posting on this board yesterday. Maybe you know something about Boren, maybe you don't. If he leaves just before the season starts, that would make him a tuck tail quitter. Any program is better off without those anyway.

Coaches don't have to be liked, but they must be respected. Lack of respect = low moral = no motivation. Kragthorpe at Tulsa has proven what a little motivation and instillation of self belief can do, not to mention a wide open offense.

Do you think Bennett is starting to feel the heat?

Yes and no. The coaching staff knows we can't go 0-12 again, but they also know they have the support of Copeland, who understands that (A) we were the youngest team in the country, (B) we will be the youngest team in the country again this year and (C) football players, no matter how talented, have to grow and mature. If we win a couple of games this year and show improvement in the games we lose (minus OSU, perhaps), he'll be fine. He has a plan and he's done unbelievable work laying the foundation for a stronger program (rather than taking the all-JUCO quick-fix route). I hope he gets to see it through so he can enjoy the rewards of his work.

More importantly, everyone I've talked to says Justin Boren is still on the team and working his a-- off. Might be like letting a wild animal out of a cage in August.
