Montana State vs SMU Prediction Thread

Well seeing how it's the day before the game, I will give my actual prediction today.

I think that SMU has enough weapons in their passing game to score plenty of points tomorrow. The Cats have enough talent on the passing defensive side of things to potentially slow it down, but not stop it completely. We have a veteran secondary and a stud DE. MSU's run defense could be vulnerable this year, so any token running by SMU should go for decent gains.

I don't know how we match up against your D, as Tech passes all over you but that's what Tech does. The Cats are hard to get a read on offensively as well, as we have a new OC and we didn't dip very far into our playbook against Monmouth, and the starters came out in the 3rd Q. The Cats have traditionally (last 3-4 years) been about a 55/45 run to pass ratio. Every TD last week was a rushing TD, but McGhee was 19/27 for 240 yards through the air in under 3 quarters of work.

I like our size advantage along the OL but that doesn't translate into good protection and/or the ability to open running lanes. They are bigger this year, but are pretty green and mostly sophs, with one junior being the elder. Our offensive success will be the ability to protect McGhee and get a hat on a hat in the 2nd level against your LBs, otherwise our ground game will struggle. And when our ground game struggles, the Cats lose and don't score very much.

I think SMU scores, and MSU struggles to establish the run game and therefore we are limited in scoring and we just can't keep up.

The game is in doubt until well into the 4th quarter.
