Perhaps they have immanent plans to finish the bowl after this season...that's the only excuse I can see. I feel like a visitor in my own stadium: can't hear our mic'd band, visiting band dominates, visiting fans buying out what used to be the young alumni end zone seats.

It is good to see opposition fans in the frame when anyone scores in that endzone!

its not a tough fix. Move the band to the north end of what is currently the student seats. The sound will bounce around and you can rethink it next year. Just admit it and get on with it already.

Maybe they want to give the students the best seats they can.

this is a bigger issue than that. Students will be happy to be closer to the tent/bar

Being in the YA section tonight I can tell you it was unt students and fans coming and coming down to get better seats and views. We personally kicked several out of our seats and they saw an opening and jumped on it.

I have never been an advocate for the band but that volume needs to be turned up....I will swear till kingdom come that I could not hear any smu band. Also the student section looks great they get out of the sun and for the most part from the end zone it looked like the majority stayed for the game. Leave them there if that's what they want. Better than standing in the blazing sun

Leave the students in the best seats possible but the band in the grassy knoll playing back in to the bowl

Sitting in 110, I could barely hear cheers from the student section (who no doubt we're trying) and the mic'd band might as well have been playing underwater. It really is insane. I chose to sit in 110 specifically so I could be across from the students and help them out on the home side.

You shouldn't have the opposing band blaring in your ear when you are sitting on the home side, you just shouldn't.

I agree..that little student and band section all the way to the south is bizarre...it's way too weird. I am NOT a fan...embarrassing. Not worth talking about..

Back in "the day", we played the whole time on offense -- softer while at the line, but still playing. And we toed the line on rules while playing on defense.

You know I am a huge supporter on the band, but I agree with everyone here. The Band should be playing more in the stands when the other team has the ball, and should have a signature 3rd down ditty or chord or something to play right up until the other team is down in their stance ready to snap.

One thing that they could very obviously do on 3rd down is the Seven Nation Army bit. No need to pump that in when the band could easily play it. I agree though that they need to play more. Of course, the band doesn't help itself any when the kids basically ignore the director and he has to wait on them to get ready. Of course, that's on the director. No excuse for it. Saw way too much of it tonight.

The students are a lot closer to mid field than they were in the old location.

I thought the mic'ing of the band worked well. I don't love their location but this is an acceptable solution.

News flash people: bodies absorb sound. If you're sitting in 110, no you are not going to hear students cheering or band playing from where they're sitting, especially if you are sitting right next to another band -- even if the Mustang Band were 4 times its size (hence the need for a mic -- and if you still couldn't hear them, then that illustrates the acoustic issue). There was a decent crowd there last night, and they were cheering, which also interferes with sound further away.

Ever been to a game in Bryant Denny? I have been to several (father in law teaches Sports Marketing there). Guess what, unless you are sitting right next to or maybe directly across from the "Million Dollar Band" (I think that describes their annual budget) of 450 strong, you can't hear them either.

On a positive note about the student placement, there were quite a few students who bled over to the grass and were packed right up against the wall cheering and making noise the whole game. I could see that becoming a thing.
