Thanks PK and Ponyfan. I appreciate your heart-felt sentiments. However, my post was not to generate concern for my plight or other Mustang player’s plight. My post was more to the concept that the NCAA is irrelevant. It has proved through the years that it will protect certain institutions and crucify others.
Please know that many players (not just SMU players) have to face the ravages of time. It was our choice and I emphasize that it was our choice. God was good to me and many others to give us the tools, desire, and dedication to play major college football. That is a more exclusive group then the medical profession I now belong to. My goal early in life was to play football at SMU. From the earliest times of my life that I can remember, I wanted to play ball at SMU. Had I just been a doctor and not a football player, life would have not have been, for me, fulfilling. Thank God I could play ball. I can only thank God that I had the tools, desire and opportunity to play for SMU. But playing football, with the great players I played with, and the great coaching staff and then becoming a doctor is beyond one's greatest expectations. Lord knows I have been blessed beyond one’s greatest expectations. Do not feel sympathy or pity for one so blessed. I could not ask for more in life. We played for love of game and love of SMU. And I dare say that most former SMU players would gladly give up their current success to play just one more year. I know I would. Please know that others and I suffered not for anyone, but for us. It was my choice and my desire. Of the many stupid things I have done in my life, playing football at SMU is NOT one of them. Thought the pain is a constant reminder that once, for a brief movement in my life, I was giving the rare opportunity to play ball, and I accept that without one iota of remorse. It was well worth it. But my time has passed. It is now time to dedicate my resources to the current football program. Forget justice from the NCAA. It is a canard. Please dedicate current efforts and resources to the current success of SMU football and athletics.
I can provide the money for the surgery (which I know you do not need) but I would expect you have a little better insight to the medical community. I can get you a good rate on a CD though.
By the way, I already have my flight reservations for Baylor and TCU. Are you going to be able to make for either or both? Maybe you, Arkpony and I can get together before the season and trade notes. Good luck on your repair work.
Ponyte: Next time you make it to The Boulevard, let's have a beer! You're a class act! And I'm proud to call you a MUSTANG!
P.S. We met briefly once before. ![]()
Ponyte, I know you weren't looking for sympathy, and I didn't mean to imply that. I have a lot of respect for all the players who have given their all for SMU including those in the 90's and the years since and I know that eventully that means pain in the future as the ole joints start to give out. I know of an excellent orthopedic surgeon here in the Dallas area, but that's a long ways from Arkansas. If you are interested, I'll get you his name...be advised, I think he was a Froggie, but I hear he is really good.
I am with you in that my support is totally behind our players and team as a whole. It is a slow process, but I do think we are headed in the right direction.
I look forward to it!
