Wow, the new optimistic Stallion, but unfortunately, that 1/2 scholarship dog won't hunt. First, the average attendance for SMU baseball when we had it was about 20, FYI. Second, the top quality baseball recruits are eligible for the major league draft (which drafts high school seniors), so the person you are recruiting is probably weighing an offer from the Brewers to pay him to play baseball. I can hear the pitch now, "Hey, you're quite a pitcher, you can come to SMU and it will only cost you $15,000 per year instead of $30,000." Now if he is really good, he's already got full offers from other schools and partial offers from perennial competitors like UT and A&M which cost about 1/2. So I guess my view is that if you want to compete for championships and go to the CWS out of one of the toughest baseball conferences in the Country (Tulane, Rice, UCF, USM, ECU, UH), its going to cost a lot of money.

Every other school has to deal with the brewers drafting their players, so i don't see why that would affect us any different. Also, Rice, Tulane, and TCU aren't exactly cheap and somehow get players to go there.

They don't have men's soccer teams either, do they?

I'm certainly not going to claim we would have good attendance for baseball now, but it's not fair to compare playing games at a public park on Harry Hines vs. having an on campus venue.

I would also like to add that both Rice and Tulane have attendance issues in football and basketball the same as us.

I don't think baseball is ever gonna happen. But if it were, and if it were me, I would build a stadium on the other side of Central where the UA Cine is/was. SMU owns that land and a couple of other parcels as well, I believe. You'd have at least two bars right next door. That would be a ballpark with a real downtown flavor. "Businessmen's special" games at 2 in the afternoon on Fridays. Probably up the value of the property around it. Office buildings, too, if they could look down on the field. Maybe you could get the owners to contribute.

Just a thought.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

SMU not having baseball is just wasted potential, considering all the solid prospects that come out of TX. Who wouldn't want to play at SMU, on a beautiful campus, in an exciting city, surrounded by hot chicks? Not to knock soccer or anything, since they are a solid sport at SMU, but the fact we have a soccer team and not a baseball team is perplexing.

Just as a point of interest, TCU's home attendance average was around 1800 with a high of 4000 and Tulane's home attendance average was about 3000 with a high of 12,000 (vs LSU). Rice had a home attendance average around 3000 also with a high of 22,000 (vs Texas A&M).

I'm talking about the average baseball attendance when we played where the soccer field is now. I went to a large number of games and I'm talking about games against TCU, Baylor, UT, A&M and Rice. TCU would bring maybe 50 fans and UT maybe 75. Thems the facts. Like I said, $100-200 Million and you can have baseball and 1.5 womens sports at SMU that will compete and win championships which I thought was our criteria.
