You've got a mind like a steel trap. How'd you ever remember that?

The new guy is going to be suprised on thinking SMU has D1 sports but all the rest is as good or better than he expects. The girls.....

At law school commencement, Judge Creuzot spoke on the merits of affirmative action, an idea which I happen to subscribe to, and in that right wing crowd you could've heard a freaking pin drop. Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum.
Bot, but....but Cruezot is a Republican?!?!?
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

This is all great stuff! i'm stoked to start school. I do know who Doak Walker is, as well as the Ponyexpress, i'm not familiar with the other ones, or any of SMU's great tradition. Didn't Payne Stewart also go to SMU? I'm not sure if anyone mentioned him...

It was labeled 96 guys and a doll, not 99. Also, don't forget it was and is still called "The Best Dressed Band in the Land". Do you know why?
If you want to learn the history of the Mustang Band, call the bandhall at 214-SMU-BAND and ask for a copy of the history. I am sure they will provide.
THANK YOU mm65 for posting what every SMU student, alum and entering freshman should feel. I just wish more people associated with SMU and even Dallas had half of your vision.
Thanks for the correction on the '96 Guys and a Doll'. I was still half asleep when I wrote that this morning. "Best Dressed Band in the Land" was because the band's 'uniforms' were slacks, blazers, button down shirts, neckties, bowties, etc. Not sure if they were Brooks Brothers or James K. Wilson Store bought clothing, though. I remember seeing James K. Wilson ads in the programs. Regardless...it was a nice 'change of scenery' at half-time to see the Mustang Band step out onto the field either at the Cotton Bowl, Texas Stadium or Ownby Stadium (pre-Ford Stadium days, of course)!!!

Yes Payne Stewart was an SMU grad and a great Mustang. I assume you have checked out the "Other Sports" message board. If not click on it above.

Learn to take a joke, Sam Houston alum. They taught us a sense of humor at SMU, too bad you chose elsewhere.

I'm sorry if I misspelled a word and that it threw you. But glad to see you're putting that SHSU spelling degree to good use.

Of course, you did miss my butchering of the word "sugar" in the first instance, so now I am really beginning to question the value of a BA in spelling from SHSU.

Welcome SMUnick. I too came to SMU from CA. I grew up in the LA area, but wanted to get away, and had a liking of SMU. (For me, it came down to sc and SMU.) You have a great opportunity in front of you. Yes, SMU hasn't had the teams many of us would like to see, but most are diehard fans. That is one thing SMU needs. Also, as you may see, we do have a bit of infighting that serves us poorly, but that is family.
Learn about SMU. It has a wonderful history. Yes, it may be hard to have some crappy football, but with hope it will change soon. Unlike sc, SMU hasn't let the Faculty and some admin. folks know that it is really in the best interest of all to fully support the athletics. Hopefully that will change soon too.
Have heart though. SMU (and Dallas) are good places for a college. ENJOY!
Go Ponies!

Not only are the uniforms of the band unique, but the band has a variety of different slacks, coats and shirts that in combination make up over 20 different uniforms.
Here is another little thing to watch for. Did you know that the band changes uniforms at half time? Keep a keen eye on the uniforms at pregame and in the stands during the first half. Then take note that during the half time performance, they are wearing a different uniform. Sometimes the difference is minor and sometimes it is very different.
This is just another one of those things that makes the Mustang Band unlike any other college band.
Just send 'da money.
