I was at that game, and except for the scoreboard (which, admittedly, is the most important criteria), we beat Baylor in every facet of that game. Their offense played poorly, or our defense played well. That game was a classic case of a young team that had hints of talent but made mistakes at the worst possible times. I agree with stallion that they have added some players with ability in Waco, but there's no reason at all that we can't play with them.

The key to the Baylor game will be turnovers.

That could well be a big factor...and it hasn't been our strong suit of late, has it?
I hope SMU can pick up the win against Baylor, but it's going to be a tough season again this year.

Fellas,
where's the matchup analysis and player by player breakdown?
Let's not get oprah-fied and make guesses on feelings..
We have a great tailback in Paul Mosley. An All Big 12 caliper receiver in Ziegler, and the best offensive line we've had since 98.I'm indifferent to our quarterback, but he does control turnovers. But with an improved line, we will be a much better team in 05. Take a look at your defensive line and tell me which guy is going to move LaQualan McDonald around?
Where we really suck, is on the defensive line. Because of the fact we can't stop anyone's run game, it leaves our 'D' on the field for too damned long. And it puts incredible pressure on linebackers to make plays and keep long plays from happening.
And then that puts four DB's to worry about covering receivers that have too much time...
But alas,
Neither team has a lot to brag about. But I saw the SMU TCU game last year in Fort Werf. SMU has another two years of recruiting to go before it shows any treads. You have a great TE, but the rest of your offensive line looks really really bad. And the rest of your skill positions look slow...
I'd say Baylor wins this by a pair of TD's.
Forget you, sucka.

I want to avoid a cheesy smack talk war. SMU's best chance to win is a very fast start. Our guys have not won on the road in a few years, and reminding them of that early would be the best way to send a serious blow to our psyche. If you can run up the middle on us, it could be a decent game. You aren't going to beat us running wide or throwing it - our DBs are stellar. Like I said, score a couple of early TDs and force us into a handful of 3 and outs, and the game will be on.
However, Baylor fans are quietly optimistic that this could be an early breakout year if things fall right. This year's Baylor team really will be much improved over last year. For the first time we will have a solid recruiting class that was redshirted be ready to contribute in important ways. What you may not know is that we've not only been recruiting better HS talent, but we've had several JUCO and D-1 transfers (starters for bowl teams) join the program in key spots: Our offensive line should actually be pretty damn good. If you guys can't stop RB Paul Mosley, our QB Shawn Bell is going to really make your defense look bad. if we are fortunate to have a fast start, this game could be really ugly - don't forget that we beat aTm last year with less than what we are putting on the field this year. In short, we're gonna be much improved, so don't go jumping off a bridge if you don't win this one. Best wishes on the season.
Sic Em.

And another thing,
don't bag on your coach.
He's a great, great guy. I met one of the refs that called last year's TechSMU game and he was standing there when Bennette got in Leach's face. He was/is crazy enough to punch Leach.
Bennett and his brother are reportedly complete lunatics but great guys.
I hope he gives you guys reason to keep him.
Forget you, sucka.

These Baylor fans are exhibiting the classic case of "I have heard of all the players on my team, so they must be better than the players of another team that I have never heard of." You have 2 guys on the all big XII team-the kick returner and the friggin' punter.
Mosley doesn't have 600 yards yet rushing the football and his longest is 18 yds-you might want to wait on the all-Big XII honors. Bell has one win (albeit an impressive win) to his credit in five starts; it isn't even guaranteed he'd be the starter if Parks hadn't broken his hand in the spring. Ziegler can't even average 10 yards per catch-once again, much like Baylor itself, put together one good game.
What I do know is the last game between SMU and Baylor was a pathetic display by both teams. Heck, maybe you'll win. Maybe you won't. But I would curb your enthusiasm if I were you.

I'm sorry about posting a link to another message board but I felt this was applicable in this situation:

I believe the key to the game will be for SMU to score more points than the team in the green jerseys.

There's nothing funnier than fans of two really bad teams trying to talk smack to each other. "We'll beat you before we go on to lose seven straight!"
