I think he's a developing coach. That said, Mac Brown is probably one of the single worst play callers in the country, but he can sure fill a cupboard full of football players. And you know what, UNC refused to renew his contract because he wasn't successful enough soon enough, the same UNC that is now near the bottom of the ACC and went bowling two of three years after he left. I think this a make or break year for Bennett as far as recruiting is concerned. If we don't get the hosses we need to improve the stable, then clearly, it isn't going to happen here for him. If we get some decent recruits this year, then clearly he is building the team. I am wondering if he's holding off on signings to see if we fire him at the end of the year, or if kids are just waiting longer.
HFvictory brings up salient points that many on this board are afraid to address.
I have a question for Bus / Hoop Fan / PK Simple Yes or No Answer. Do do think SMU's defense will be as good next year as they are this year? btw, this is a defense that is currently ranked #78 in the nation in points allowed and #88 in yards allowed.
This has been bandied about for a couple of years now. I think it is ridiculous. There are plenty of first time coaches that come in and are successful. You can say bad players are making Bennett look like a bad coach, but don't say Bennett is learning how to be a head coach. It doesn't fly. Nobody buys it except those that desperately want to believe it.
Yes. (Screw you jt. ![]()
The only way this season can be somewhat salvaged is to win out. It would give us wins over 2 pretty good teams (TCU & UTEP), and wins over 2 possible bowl teams (Houston & UAB). It is foolish conjecture since we all know it is an impossible task.
I will also give my opinion on the "coach learning how to coach" as time goes by theory. Everyone learns from experience the more they perform the same task, but I am a firm believer that if a person has the talent to do a job well, that talent shows itself imediately.
