EmbarassingSome of you guys make me embarassed to be an SMU alumni. It's an investigation and you are innocent until proven guilty. I would like to think that we would not pass this kind of judgement on our own when this happens to an SMU player (becasue things like this happen on campuses all across the country).
I also hope you realize that these are two unrelated incidents. Taylor and Griffin are being cleared of the September incident where the gun was involved. The player who was rumored to be involved was Michael Houston, a freshman RB, who is transferring. I am surprised that the players names were even leaked to the press since it's only an investigation and no charges have been filed. Imagine if the police wanted to ask your son some questions and the press had all but charged him with a crime. Before you claim I am a UT homer, etc, I am an SMU alumni/season ticket holder and a Mustang Club donor (at age 25). "Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise."
Things like that happen all across the country?
Gee, I don't remember that helping us out when we got the death penalty. Also, no one said they are guilty, or passed judgement. What's wrong with the whole deal is that IT WILL NEVER COME TO THAT. IT WILL BE DROPPED. WE'LL NEVER KNOW. IT WILL GO AWAY - mainly due to a lack of interest from the media. You just watch.
Insane_Pony_Posse: "surpise surprise UT hoodlums on the loose again!" "why are prison uniforms orange?" Alex Lifeson: "This happens every year, the sewer out of ut continues to flow with thugs, scum, and riff raff. But hey, they have a great team right?!" "I remember that huge front page story the DMN ran a few weeks ago on Mack Brown, when they quoted him begging those gangsters of his, to pleeeeze stay out of trouble! LOL!!! good luck with all that Mack!" Mr. Pony: "Oh, and thanks for your words of reason, Mr. MustangBill67, er, DeLoss!" Care to revise your statement or have you just not read any of this thread? ![]() Official Cult of Chris Phillips Member
My response:
Thanks for responding. I know this: *Problems at UT have a funny way of disappearring from the radar after they (DeLoss and Co.) get done handling them 'in house'. *The major media outlets in this state would rather eat poison than really investigate any story that could upset UT's little train to Pasadena.
Hansen response:
oh i'm not arguing that ... here's one for your future ammo several years ago we had a tip on 1 of their star running backs with a car provided by a booster ... we called a station in austin to have them go shoot the kid driving the car the reporter called ut ... tipped 'em off we were coming - presto - no car thot you'd enjoy that dale

That's funny stuff. BTW- Miami police had no trouble dealing with Sean Taylor once he signed a contract with the Redskins. I wonder if he had some incidents while he was at U of Miami that never saw the light of day. For those of you who are younger, let's put a little perspective on this and why many SMU fans view the lack of coverage of UT's dirty linen with some skepticism. In the 1980's UT's coaches and administrators leaked a bunch of information about SMU's illegal recruiting to Dale Hansen who ran with it. Much of it was true and SMU got the death penalty. At the same time UT and every other school in the SWC was doing about what we were doing but had a smaller budget. SMU's coaches turned around and tried to rat out UT (but guess what UT's President was on the NCAA enforcement committee and that investigation got canned), so they focused instead on A&M and TCU who were ratting on each other. So when UT gets a pass for criminal incidents in their athletic department, we tend to believe that there is fire behind that smoke because the press ALWAYS downplays UT criminal acts.
What is that for? LonghornFan68, while a loyal supporter of the wrong team a couple hundred miles below us, also has been a great contributor to this site and apparently has adopted the Ponies as his second team .... making him much more open-minded than I could be if I suddenly moved to Austin (shudder ....) Disagree all you want with him for supporting a team that looks like it's been dipped in liquid rust, but it seems to me that we need more like LF68, not fewer.
I did not kow that David Stanley was a UT coach and/or administrator...I guess you learn something new every day. SMU got what it deserved, regardless of whether others were cheating or not. Hook 'em--beat USC!
