That's an interesting point and one that is not without merit. But, let's take those coaching decisions at Boston College back to the times that they were made-1996. The SWC was just falling apart and there was no BCS. At that time, it was the "bowl alliance." The differences betweent he have's and have not's were not as stark as they are now. And I think Navy's football success shows that he still has the ability to pick a coach. Still, if a BCS school's AD offered to take our job today, we would certainly listen.

One other note on Gladchuk. He oversaw the reinstatement of basketball at Tulane after the school's termination of the team because of a point shaving scandal. I think that is worth considering.

I agree with both of you. The disparity from big programs to small has grown wider in recent years. And Abe, I agree that the UH situation is similar so I think that will help him have a good perspective on what to expect at SMU. Remember while his coaching hires did not pan out well at UH, he was still sought after enough to be stolen away for the Navy job. I would say he must have been doing some pretty good things.

Question. When did UH open their awesome new facilities? Was Gladchuk instrumental in that? If so that would be a pretty nice feather in his cap and one we should certainly take notice of.

I never said UH facilities were awesome, I said they were upgraded. O'Quinn is in a swamp and it pales compared to Ford Stadium, but it is better than it used to be. I never once set foot in Hoffeinz Pavillion in three years in Houston, but it has some suites, a new floor and a new scoreboard.

But to answer your question, it appears he had somehting to do with that.

I was actually referring to their workout facilities and their equivilant of a "Letterman Hall" type thing. I think he might have had a hand in it and it is supposed to be very nice. The structure is right in between Hoffienz and Cougar Field (which is a GREAT place to catch a college baseball game).

Hoffienz got a nice facelift. Some boxes, upgraded scoreboard and a few other things around the same time as Drexler's hoops tenure. I really think Moody would be just fine with a new scoreboard and PA system. Work on the hallways/concessions some. Don't think it needs to be changed too too much. What we could really use is a nice practice facility. You are correct, Robertson Stadium (is it now called O'Quinn for the big time UH lawyer alum?)isn't even close to being in the same league as Ford. Unfortunately for UH it can't really be fixed up anymore to get away from that highschool stadium feel it has.

It is O'Quinn Field @ Robertson Stadium. Named after the best ambulance chaser that ever was, John O'Quinn. Problem for Johnny is he was drinking behind the wheel while chasing those ambulances a time or two.

Robertson also has those stupid palm trees in the corners...its Houston not the Bahamas. Though as I understand it Robertson use to be a first class track venue, which is partially why the stands are so high and far away from the field.
