If Orsini was negotiating an extension at UCF, as reported, and with the rock star following he seems to have generated there, I'd guess that he inquired throroughly into the investigation and other matters before accepting the gig. I feel certain that he's comfortable with the fact that this is a non-issue.

Rhyner went to TCU, so he's not ever going to say anything positive about SMU. Focus on Rich Phillips. He's an SMU alumnus. Rhyner's a prima donna jerk.

Nope -- Rich Phillips went to NTSU.
Don't think Rhynes went to TCU -- wasn't that Greg? Not sure about Rhynes.

Rhynes never made it past community college. Strike Three. You've got to engage the people that matter. Play their game-play it better than them. The Dallas Stars and Dallas Cowboys are doing a good job of this. Actually Mark Cuban has kind of alienated himself from the Ticket. The Texas Rangers have done about the same as SMU. Try to ignore them.

Does anybody else find it ironic that....
a) Stallion is complaining about how all we do is gripe about our poor media coverage rather than engage them and try to make the situation better when he consistently gripes about the administration and the direction of the athletic department without trying to become a member and higher up in the Mustang Club so that he might be able to engage the administration and work with them for positive change, and
b) that the curse word blocker picks up the word hancock, but not [deleted]?

Rhyner is an Oak Cliff boy who went to Arizona State many moons ago. Williams is TCU. Most other guys are UNT. Sterm is from Liberty and he busts our balls worse than anybody which is ironic.

Who the hell is afraid of Blackistone? He was way out of line. And The DMN pissant coverage of SMU is just plain wrong.
Expose it. Point out valid issues and they will listen.
By the way, if UT wins the basketball championship, get ready to see the largest font size ever employed by a newspaper in North America. The DMN will s*** itself.

They parked the Hummer and set up a freakin' card table on Bishop in front of the freshman quad, sat on their arses and shot the breeze with two other chumps for at least an hour, totally ignoring anybody walking by.

Berger is right - their remote consisted of just a table and a hummer. No Ticket chicks, giveaways, or anything that I know of. If they were going to be involved it would have been in the middle of Bishop. The Ticket hasn't said anything positive about SMU since I can remember other than the actual game coverage. They have had tickets for $13.10 if I remember correctly for several games.
We need an out of the box thinker to deal with the Dallas community in general as well as the media. We do have a limited marketing budget but hopefully they can be a lot more creative than they have. For instance having a table at the Dallas Stars game does nothing for SMU bball.
DMN sucks, get over it people. We have much more to worry about.

Maybe I am getting old, but I have to agree with Stallion. The easiest way for SMU to get in touch with the local Dallas sports fan is through The Ticket. Have our coaches and AD be regular callers on the hotline. Have Phil go over his coaches poll ballot every week. Actually pay for remotes or guys nights out at the games. If Hibernia Bank can afford to have BAD radio at one of their sites once a week you would think that we could make every Friday before a home game SMU Day. Bring every show out in front of the Freshman dorms and give tickets and other SMU stuff away. Then do a major pre-game show about 3 hours before the game, have Phillips, Miller, Corby, Sturm and Kevin Scott out there talking up the game, doing a NCAA scoreborad, and comment on the sites and sounds. The tent with TV's, food, and free beer would be a great attention getter and word will get around. I love the Ticket Chick tie-ins and the concept of a Sorority Beauty contest is genius. You can replicate this with multiple other angles as well and at the end of the year game someone can be crowned Miss SMU. Spend a little money and a little time and you will get a great return.

Yes.
Aside from Stallion's unproven assumption that we haven't "invited" the Ticket to do remote broadcasts and promotions in connection with games and the Boulevard, I find it funny that we have to "invite" a radio station to promote games that it actually broadcasts. Seems to me that it would be good for their listenership and ad revenue to pump up 4 hours of radio time that happens 11 or 12 times a fall -- without having to be "invited" to do it. But then, I guess I'm not the marketing genius that Stallion is.
